Surveys
We are working to build-up a picture of what routes look like. To do that we are asking volunteers to survey routes so that we can communicate features, obstacles and challenges that may make a route desirable or not.
Slow Ways surveyors are asked to complete some basic online training, but they are not vetted. If you are dependent on the survey information being correct in order to complete a route, we recommend that you think critically about the information provided. You may also wish to wait until more than one survey has been completed.
Help people know more about this route by volunteering to submit a survey.

09 Sep 2024Overall: Some very nice parts to walk through, however the connecting sections had a number of completely overgrown areas and quite dangerous crossings
- The first part of the walk through Lee Valley Country Park is very nice
- After the first section you emerge out onto a busy country road with a partial blind turn that you need to cross (road called Crooked Mile), this was a dangerous road to cross
- The next section was pleasant until the approach to Galleyhill Road, the route takes you up a public footpath next to the farm which was completely overgrown, we could not take that path so had to walk directly to the road and walk up the roadside (no footpath) to reach the next section
- Sections of the route from Galleyhill Road to Cobbins Brook were completely overgrown with nettles and brambles, the footpath signs were the only indication that it was even a path, we had to force through chest high brambles and nettles to approach the small bridge over Cobbins Brook
- Pick Hill was a relief as it was back on a solid path, however there were often cars passing and there was no footpath
- Horseshoe Hill was a busy road but had a pathway alongside, safe enough but not the nicest walk
- Once we turned off Horseshoe Hill onto Fernhall Lane/Long Street the walk was very nice, quiet country tracks and paths, nice scenery
- Approaching Epping the High Road was quite busy to cross but it was a more pleasant walk through the green spaces on the other side than it would have been along the High Road.
