Surveys
We are working to build-up a picture of what routes look like. To do that we are asking volunteers to survey routes so that we can communicate features, obstacles and challenges that may make a route desirable or not.
Slow Ways surveyors are asked to complete some basic online training, but they are not vetted. If you are dependent on the survey information being correct in order to complete a route, we recommend that you think critically about the information provided. You may also wish to wait until more than one survey has been completed.
Help people know more about this route by volunteering to submit a survey.

24 Sep 2021Stunning, but difficult, and not all of this follows a definite path, which means heather up to your knees and a bit of rocky scrambling. None of this is a bad thing, but be ready! You'll need your map and, if the weather's bad, probably a compass.
Absolutely no access for wheelchairs or buggies as there are stiles to cross, bogs to leap, steep climbs and so on.
The northern half follows some of the Hebridean Way and is waymarked well. Northbay has a few services to keep you topped up.
Other alternatives to this would be the Hebridean Way itself, which from Castlebay tracks the western road to Craigston and then cuts across the hills. It may be slightly longer but the going is easier and you get some lovely views of the ocean. Perhaps a local walker can verify which is preferable.
