Surveys
We are working to build-up a picture of what routes look like. To do that we are asking volunteers to survey routes so that we can communicate features, obstacles and challenges that may make a route desirable or not.
Slow Ways surveyors are asked to complete some basic online training, but they are not vetted. If you are dependent on the survey information being correct in order to complete a route, we recommend that you think critically about the information provided. You may also wish to wait until more than one survey has been completed.

30 May 2022I attempted to walk this route, but unfortunately it appears that the bridleway between Docker Farm and Outfield Farm has been eradicated. The farmer at Outfield Farm was fairly firm in saying I should follow the road, the gates were difficult to access, and the field was totally overgrown.

03 Jun 2022Dear Mary,
Thanks for reviewing the route, Carkir 3. As you gathered it was a theoretical route to overcome the problems with Carkir One. The route through Outfield Farm is definitely a right of way according to MARIO, The OS and I also checked the Definitive map. There is an alternative footpath just to the north (1-37-FP14) however as the RA local footpath secretary for the Lancaster area I shall report it to LCC and investigate myself. As a Slow Ways route it may still, in the short term at least, be problematic but use of 1-37-FP14 may solve it. I shall check. It would be better than using the road if the path was OK.
regards,
Neil Herbert

16 Jun 2022Dear Mary,
Quick update, bridleway 1-37-BW16 from Outfield Farm to Docker Farm is additionally obstructed at Docker Farm, the track has been squeezed out of existence by the hedge and stream and the exit to the road is via a slurry strewn paddock. So this is an unsatisfactory route. Path 1-37-FP14, roughly parallel to 1-37-BW16, is satisfactory and bypasses both farms. Although cutting out a bit of road, walking it adds distance, so your CarKIr 5 route is probably a better bet. All issues have been reported to LCC.
regards,
Neil Herbert (Lancaster Ramblers)
