Surveys
We are working to build-up a picture of what routes look like. To do that we are asking volunteers to survey routes so that we can communicate features, obstacles and challenges that may make a route desirable or not.
Slow Ways surveyors are asked to complete some basic online training, but they are not vetted. If you are dependent on the survey information being correct in order to complete a route, we recommend that you think critically about the information provided. You may also wish to wait until more than one survey has been completed.
Help people know more about this route by volunteering to submit a survey.

27 Aug 2023Echoing Hiking Historian's comment that there are a couple of minor inaccuracies with this route and you're better following Burpar two.
The right angle in the path on Mill Lane shows the route of the public right of way that used to exist next to the old Ainscough Mill - it's still there on the Lancashire County Council map but following it would go through some people's back gardens and it's much easier to follow the road.
At Top Locks the route takes you across one of the wooden footbridges - while these are fun, there's also a stone bridge for those following an accessible route, but if you take a walk down the Rufford branch towards the Ship Inn, you'll find a variety of ways to cross the locks and overflow channels (and a lovely beer garden if you want some refreshment on a sunny afternoon!).

05 Mar 2022Route is a great canalside wander through a peaceful countryside stretch. Amenities at both ends of this just over hour-long jaunt.
The beginning isn't quite right: there is no right-angled footpath in the new housing estate, and access for all to the towpath is via the Wharf shopping centre, or by foot via steps.
I've amended it slightly as BURPAR Two to take in these changes.
