Surveys

We are working to build-up a picture of what routes look like. To do that we are asking volunteers to survey routes so that we can communicate features, obstacles and challenges that may make a route desirable or not.

Slow Ways surveyors are asked to complete some basic online training, but they are not vetted. If you are dependent on the survey information being correct in order to complete a route, we recommend that you think critically about the information provided. You may also wish to wait until more than one survey has been completed.

Help people know more about this route by volunteering to submit a survey.

Review of Slow Ways route Bucfin one (Buckie—Findochty)
I reviewed this route over two days in June 2023. It is only three miles long but passes through beautiful scenery with wonderful views over the Moray Firth to the north. The route begins in Cluny Square at the centre of Buckie and initially follows East Church Street towards the east end of the town. It then enters a rather nondescript car park where it joins the Moray Coastal Cycle Route to initially pass through some housing estates and cross some minor roads. The route then heads into the countryside (with lovely views and extremely friendly locals walking their dogs and pushing their buggies) to the edge of Findochty. It then follows the A942 (quite steeply) downhill (initially on a grass verge but then on pavements) until turning into School Hill. A left turn into Jubilee Terrace brings the traveller to Findochty Harbour and Marina, and the end of the route (and incidentally, the start of the coastal path back to the start, if wished). What is not to like? A short, scenic, well-surfaced and well used route. The only drawback is the short section downhill into Findochty with no pavement. Oh and its pronounced ‘finechty’.
