Surveys
We are working to build-up a picture of what routes look like. To do that we are asking volunteers to survey routes so that we can communicate features, obstacles and challenges that may make a route desirable or not.
Slow Ways surveyors are asked to complete some basic online training, but they are not vetted. If you are dependent on the survey information being correct in order to complete a route, we recommend that you think critically about the information provided. You may also wish to wait until more than one survey has been completed.
Help people know more about this route by volunteering to submit a survey.

17 Sep 2022 (edited 19 Sep 2022)I would love to give this stupendously scenic route five stars. A good portion of it is already walkable and it is a stellar Slow Way in the making but parts of the suggested route are impassably overgrown or follow the ungenerous grass verge of the fast and busy A87. Hence the poor overall rating and the flag for safety.
The good news is that a dedicated group of volunteers have been working hard for several years raising funds and making links with with various partners, including Sustrans, to develop a safe, multi-user cycle path between Broadford and Kyle.. They are hoping Phase I of construction will start in the nearish future, but the whole project will take a few more years to complete. To follow its progress, search for 'Skye Cycle Way' on Facebook.
In the meantime, the sections at either end between Broadford and Ashaig, and between the Cnoc forestry trail and Kyle of Lochalsh are usable and mostly lovely, with plenty of the almost casually breathtaking views typical of the area.
The problematic section is between Ashaig (w3w burying.dangerously.cuddling) and the entrance to the Cnoc forestry (puddings.whips.leap). The route here uses the old abandoned main road, some of which is completely overgrown with pine and gorse bushes, and over a mile is along the main road, which I didn't try to walk - too scary.
