Surveys
We are working to build-up a picture of what routes look like. To do that we are asking volunteers to survey routes so that we can communicate features, obstacles and challenges that may make a route desirable or not.
Slow Ways surveyors are asked to complete some basic online training, but they are not vetted. If you are dependent on the survey information being correct in order to complete a route, we recommend that you think critically about the information provided. You may also wish to wait until more than one survey has been completed.
Help people know more about this route by volunteering to submit a survey.

21 Jun 2021Varied and enjoyable route along the River Avon through East Bristol to rise very slightly to reach Wick at the western end of the Cotswolds. Full of interest in terms of Bristol's industrial heritage. The River Avon transported goods and coal to the Floating Harbour and out to the sea. The walk is flat most of the way through or round plenty of interesting and attractive green spaces, (Bristol has many parks and green public spaces), including Netham Park, Conham Park, touching on Dundridge and skirting just outside Magpie Bottom, nature reserve. Then through Kingswood, up onto Cock Road Ridge, where there is a lot of wild open grassland and birdlife. Unfortunately the walk here is only marred by traffic noise from the busy A roads to Bath and round Bristol. The walk follows a bit of the National Cycle route and the Monarch's Way at times. The last part of the walk, about 2-3 miles, from North Common is mainly across fields, and through a slightly wooded area to reach the High Street in Wick.
There didn't seem to be any buses back to Bristol. I had left my bike in Oldland Common so was able to cycle back.
