Surveys
We are working to build-up a picture of what routes look like. To do that we are asking volunteers to survey routes so that we can communicate features, obstacles and challenges that may make a route desirable or not.
Slow Ways surveyors are asked to complete some basic online training, but they are not vetted. If you are dependent on the survey information being correct in order to complete a route, we recommend that you think critically about the information provided. You may also wish to wait until more than one survey has been completed.
Help people know more about this route by volunteering to submit a survey.

27 Aug 2021There are different ways of looking at what constitutes a slow way. The main requirements can sometimes go against each other. This route clearly aims at guiding walkers through more noteworthy spots on the way between the start and the destination at the expense of being as direct as possible and easy to navigate. Starting from Bracknell station, this route leads through leafy residential area of Hermans Water and Crown Wood. As a Bracknell resident, I discovered many new shortcuts. For anyone unfamiliar with Bracknell, the way from the station to the town's edge is complicated and rather than look around, people would have to check a map or a smartphone at all times so as not to go astray. There is one place in Hermans Water where I had to leave the pavement at the end of Blue Coat Walk and walk across a green unkept stretch to get to another pavement. I was lucky that the hedge was not too high or thick there. Otherwise, I'd need to feel my way round it. When the route approaches the Look out center, it would make sense to use the signalized pedestrian crossing right after the entrance to the Coral Reef Waterworld. Once the route reaches the Look out center at the edge of Bracknell it continues as one would expect in the direction of Camberley. However, it veers towards Bagshot at Lower Star Post which makes the route longer. It leads through beautiful heathland around Bagshot Heath Radio Station truss tower. It means that, again, the rest of the walk has to follow long stretches of residential areas to reach Camberley town center.
