Description

An adequate replacement for Borsan_1 which is blocked until August 2021. There is a narrow path on the B5010 which can be busy and so it it not an ideal route to use if others are available.
Photo 1: I walked the from Sandiacre to Borrowash route heading from east to west which is the GPX route direction. The Co-Op at the start of the route. Follow the B5010 up the slight incline.
Photo 2: Turn left into Risley Lane.
Photo 3: Cross the road to enter the cricket field and follow the footpath.
Photo 4: Step stile through a hedgerow (there are a lot of hedgerow stiles on this route).
Photo 5: You pass through a few small fields. In the corner of one field you come across a narrow (38cm), overgrown stile with a gate at the other side. Continue through fields on a well defined path.
Photo 6: The field ends and you walk onto the National Cycle Path no. 6. Turn right and follow the path.
Photo 7: The cycle path stops at the Hopwell Road. This shows the closed footpath of Borsan One. Cross the road and turn right to continue onto Borrowash, you will see the footpath sign ahead.
Photo 8: The footpath sign showing the direction left.
Photo 9: The stile through the hedge to the field beyond. There is another stile of a similar design beyond this point.
Photo 10: The footpath changes from field to a rough but laid surface.
Photo 11: Gate with kissing gate on right. Head left on the path across the road.
Photo 12: Although wide at the start, the path narrows and can be uncomfortable to walk on in the summer with busy traffic on one side and brambles an nettles on the other.
Photo 13: Collyer's nursery - café and toilets here.
Photo 14: Walk into Borrowash along the B5010
Photo 15: Centre of Borrowash - end of route

A bit of a curate's egg (good in parts). Too much road walking for my taste, though there are pavements, and the stiles on the path from Breaston Lane to the (long gone) Derby canal rather spoil it from an accessibility perspective.

As the creator identifies, this is an alternative to BorSan One due to a temporary closure of that route. This one is fine, but you'd be sensible to follow the original route that is now reopened.
