Description
Very similar to Blawel One but offers a nearby off-road alternative between Velvet Bottom and the B3135 Plummers Lane, using an informal path through open access land at Ubley Warren and a couple of miles of good new permissive footpath/bridleway around the edges of fields owned by Yeo Valley organics. It is half a mile longer but will suit those who prefer field edges to tarmac

Surveys
We are working to build-up a picture of what routes look like. To do that we are asking volunteers to survey routes so that we can communicate features, obstacles and challenges that may make a route desirable or not.
Slow Ways surveyors are asked to complete some basic online training, but they are not vetted. If you are dependent on the survey information being correct in order to complete a route, we recommend that you think critically about the information provided. You may also wish to wait until more than one survey has been completed.

03 Jun 2022 (edited 22 Jun 2022)This is essentially the same good route as Blawel One (see this route for my review of the rest of the route) but it uses open access land and a new, permissive off-road footpath/bridleway through the central section between Velvet Bottom and the B3135 at Plummers Lane. There is little difference in length and they parallel each other closely. Personally, I think there is little difference between them in the quality of the walking either. It really depends if you prefer walking around field edges or walking along a quiet road. But it is great to have an added off-road option.
This route departs from Blawel One at the end of the short on-road curve at the top of Velvet Bottom, where walkers’ cars are often parked. Head back in to Ubley Warren through the kissing gate at the southern end of it and follow informal paths through the southern part of the Warren, exiting the open access land onto the road again through the field gate at w3w drifter.dusts.wrenching.
The permissive path starts here, starting off along the headland of an unfenced field at the roadside and then curving away a little to the east at the bottom of the hill to pick up the track towards Yoxter Cadet Training Centre. It skirts through woodland around ithe centre itself and then follows around the edges of arable fields and pastures, often right next to the road used by Blawel One. You get a bit of a glimpse of the hawthorn-bush-studded landscape of the Yoxter firing range along the way. At the B3135, the route rejoins Blawel One, having run immediately parallel to it on the other side of the field boundary for most of the last mile.
As this is Yeo Valley’s land, there will likely be dairy cows in summer but where they were present they were well fenced off from the path on the day I walked it. This landowner generally has very well organised and maintained footpaths, so I suspect that this is usual.
