Surveys
We are working to build-up a picture of what routes look like. To do that we are asking volunteers to survey routes so that we can communicate features, obstacles and challenges that may make a route desirable or not.
Slow Ways surveyors are asked to complete some basic online training, but they are not vetted. If you are dependent on the survey information being correct in order to complete a route, we recommend that you think critically about the information provided. You may also wish to wait until more than one survey has been completed.

23 Jun 2024Walked in reverse. An easy route between the two locations using footpaths and pavements.
From the library and bus stops on the road at Denton Burn, we head down the good tarmac pavements through Denton Dene, a mix of lawns and woods, heading downhill. After a few junctions, we pass the football ground and exit to the road. Crossing the road, as the main road doglegs towards the bridge, we take a side road by the statue of a family with a pony/donkey, and use either the steps or slope downhill onto the main road.
You can cross the A695 using pedestrian crossings; it can be quite busy, but there is a subway close by. Crossing the road, we're onto the bridge over the Tyne. Once over, a footpath runs down to the river, where we take a tarmac path alongside it.
Eventually, we reach a road that runs through an industrial estate. It's not the prettiest part of the route, but necessary for the connection to the footpath that runs to Blaydon station, and the end of the route.
Good transport links at both ends, but there's not much by way of amenities, but it's a good short walk.

20 Jun 2024I walked this route from Blaydon to Denton Burn It definitely fixes the faults identified with Bladen one. There is no realistic way of avoiding the industrial estate but this is the most direct route to the river. A shared cycle path takes you along the river bank to Scotswood Bridge. As mentioned there are several options to cross the road after the bridge and this is one of the most straightforward. A short climb up the hill and then you find the path on the left. It is signed as part of Hadrian Wall Trail. It is then a case of following the tarmac paths up Denton Dene.
