Description
There are footpaths across both sides of Erskine Bridge, but the one on the northwest side, which this route follows, was closed in June 2016 as well as August 2023, and at various other times judging from Google Street View, so I've plotted this alternative. At the same time I have rerouted the Old Kilpatrick end slightly in order to avoid a flight of steps

13 Sep 2023Review of Slow Way Bisold 2 (Bishopton to Old Kilpatrick Two)
I walked this route on a cloudy/sunny day in late August 2023. I had the advantage of accompanying a fellow Slow Ways enthusiast which made what would have been a fairly dull (at least in places) route much more enjoyable. The route leaves Bishopton via pavemented roads with one short pathed section through a housing estate. After crossing the M8 motorway, the going gets a little more difficult as the route follows the pavement-less Drumcross Road for the best part of a kilometre. After that, the going is much easier as a good pavement is provided. As explained by the previous reviewer, one of the paths up on to the Erskine Bridge is currently closed (and has been for some time) but this route takes the other path (mostly open but with a few short diversions onto the adjacent cycle lane). This seems to be a reasonably well used route as we encountered several cyclists and a few other walkers whilst crossing over. The way down from the bridge into Old Kilpatrick (as mapped) is fairly simple, although there is one steep (downhill) section. The views however are excellent. All in all a perfectly acceptable route (especially considering there is really no alternative) as long as care is taken with the pavement-less section and the constant traffic noise can be ignored. I agree with the previous reviewer that the facilities in the garden centre at the south end of the bridge are extremely welcome.

01 Sep 2023This route was very road based, although that seems pretty inevitable, looking at the map. In particular, the road from just after the M8 bridge to Kirton church, with no pavement or verge, seemed quite busy, although the drivers were generally considerate. We had to cross sides several times due to bends. After that, there was a pavement all the way to Erskine Bridge.
Crossing Erskine Bridge was safe as there was a decent barrier between the motor vehicles and the cycle lane, and another smaller barrier between the cycle and the pedestrian lanes. There were three short sections where the pedestrian lane was closed for repairs and we had to use the cycle lane, but these were temporary and not a problem.
The continuous noise of traffic was very tedious, but having company helped a lot. However there were wonderful views towards Glasgow from up there! I suspect the views towards Dumbarton and the hills would have been even better if we’d been able to use the opposite footpath over the bridge.
There is a garden centre at the south end of the bridge, which has toilets and a café.
