Description
The original Bishop Sutton to Farmborough route is a fantastic walk, with the exception of the part just outside Farmborough itself which uses some rarely used paths which can be difficult to access and navigate. However, there is a great alternative just slightly further north along the well used Bridleway. This is much easier to use and hardly adds any distance to the overall route. I thought it was worth adding as an alternative that I think better meets the Slow Ways requirements. The views are better too.
I've left the rest of the route exactly the same (just added a bit more accuracy to the route file)
Enjoy!

Surveys
We are working to build-up a picture of what routes look like. To do that we are asking volunteers to survey routes so that we can communicate features, obstacles and challenges that may make a route desirable or not.
Slow Ways surveyors are asked to complete some basic online training, but they are not vetted. If you are dependent on the survey information being correct in order to complete a route, we recommend that you think critically about the information provided. You may also wish to wait until more than one survey has been completed.

09 Jul 2022This route generally deserves more stars than the three I have given it and panifex’s alternative route out of Farmborough is really nice, but thanks to the propensity of some farmers to drill crops right up to the hedge and not maintain the footpath across their fields, I had two 500m instances of wrestling through mature crops of field beans sometimes up to my shoulders (I’m not tall) plus a field of wheat to wade through to boot, and this put a dampener on my enjoyment of this very decent Slow Way today.
This is a seasonal thing (mid July) so not a problem much of the year but I got irritated and came home with nettle stings, both of which I shouldn’t have..... Inconsiderate arable cropping? Don’t get me started!!!...Oops! I already have....
Otherwise, as I said. Really nice.
One lot of annoying bean fields were on the section of path along Clutton Hill between w3w husbands.anyway.suave and locate.disgraced.managers (and as I made my grumpy circuitous way around the top of them, the view was nice). The other is east of Bishop Sutton between outnumber.villager.roaming and viewer.packing.coats. I did battle with this beanfield on a walk last year too, so it seems to be a regular crop here. And though the locals clearly walk around the edge of one of these fields, it is still a right pain once the crop gets tall.
Just so you know!.

02 Jun 2022I walked this route in both directions. It is a great walk, along easy to navigate footpaths. The only problems I encountered were cows...
Definitely a good Slow Way.
