Surveys
We are working to build-up a picture of what routes look like. To do that we are asking volunteers to survey routes so that we can communicate features, obstacles and challenges that may make a route desirable or not.
Slow Ways surveyors are asked to complete some basic online training, but they are not vetted. If you are dependent on the survey information being correct in order to complete a route, we recommend that you think critically about the information provided. You may also wish to wait until more than one survey has been completed.
Help people know more about this route by volunteering to submit a survey.

03 Jan 2024I started from the NEC. The route through the building requires following signs as the stairs, escalators and corridors of the "Skyway" doesn't really lend itself to OS maps. Having left the building at the railway station/ airport the route was pretty simple to follow from there. The footpath just south of Marston Green was flooded, but could be waded. North of Marston Green is the end of the airport runway. When I went past, locals were sat and stood watching arrivals and departures! A mixture of country parks and recs deliver you into Birmingham and it's just south of Yardley Cemetery where you join the canal towpath. The towpath offered the first views of downtown and the miles soon slipped by. Digbeth High Street was a ready supply of refreshment options en route to the meeting place by New Street Station. This route is safe, easy and as direct as you can be, having to go around the airport. There are multiple refreshment stops and good links to public transport throughout. There are steps at the NEC end.
