20 Feb 2024A good urban route with green breaks through the suburbs of Birkenhead. It's pretty much accessible all the way, although maybe a bit steep in places for wheeled users.
From Birkenhead Central station (not far from the main shopping area), he head gradually uphill along well-paved residential roads. At the top, a few turns and then we take a pleasant walk across Mersey Park. With good views over the river, we head downhill and once more move along residential roads through Rock Ferry.
Once past the station, we use a pedestrianised section of road to access another, and, after a few turns, we go over a bridge over the bypass, then take a slope down into Rock Park. The road is unpaved, but it's nice and quiet, passing all the big impressive houses of this once exclusive private estate. At the end, we reach New Ferry where we are briefly at the river, with plenty of benches if you wanted to break the walk and watch the river and the birds.
From here, it's up through New Ferry into Bebington, where we encounter the edge of Port Sunlight's picturesque houses, before reaching the station, the end of the route.
A good urban walk between two stations, with shops along the way.

15 Feb 2024I headed gradually uphill from Birkenhead Central Station with glimpses of Liverpool above the roofs as I got a bit higher. I then crossed Mersey Park where there were better views across the Mersey to Liverpool and further south east. A colourful street of terraced houses brought me towards Rock Ferry Station, then beyond through a new housing estate.
Eventually I crossed to Rock Park, a quiet road of historic houses lining the Mersey. This was rather interesting. At the north end of this, a short diversion to the north would have taken me to the old Rock Ferry Pier and the Refreshment Rooms pub, and possibly I could have walked along the promenade rather than the Rock Park road. I didn’t try this, but I have had a nice lunch at the pub previously. The historic area has been somewhat spoilt by the busy A41 bypass. More info here https://www.cawirral.co.uk/v1/rock-park/
The route briefly met the water, where there were great views across the river to the Liverpool coast. Moving away from the coast, I crossed New Ferry, very run down in parts, but also with some unusual shops and wonderful wall art. I was soon passing the edge of Port Sunlight to reach Bebington Station.
Definitely a more interesting route than BirBeb One, in my opinion.

20 Feb 2024The prom from the Refreshment Rooms to New Ferry is a nice riverside walk, with good views over the Mersey and the big houses of Rock Park, but it is a bit broken in places. I like walking down there, but probably not good for an accessible SlowWay.
