Description

This is a short and quiet route through residential streets plus two medium sized parks, Martens Grove and Barnehurst Open Space. Although it is about 1km longer than BexEri 1 it avoids the main roads and the local road layout means there is relatively little cut through traffic.

There are some bus stops near the Parkside Avenue / Manor Way junction which is also less than half a mile walk from Barnehurst Station. Might be useful as there is no station in Bexleyheath town centre, the start/end of the route, although it is a bus route hub. No midway shops or eateries, but plenty at either end

I walked from Erith to Bexley on a hot May day.
A good walk, generally urban but with parks to break it up.
Barnhurst open space has gates either end which can be opened with a Radar key. The space is grass and uphill going South.
Martens Grove is beautiful, hilly, and is paved but covered in a thin layer of dust and leaves.
The route is just about wheelable.
Definitely a nice walk.

Walked Erith to Bexleyheath. Good urban route, mostly residential with some parks.
Best part for me was Martens Grove park, a little outcrop of ancient woodland and modern parkland. Also a wonderful view across to the SW from Castleton Avenue.
No refreshments on the way but its not a long route.

I started from Erith (having also walked from Abbey Wood). I used the traffic light crossings at Bexley Road Roundabout. Quiet streets are easy to follow to Barnehurst Open Space. Martens Grove Park is pleasant with a bike track. On leaving Chieveley Road I turned left to reach Bexleyheath Broadway. Lidl has toilets and so does the Broadway Shopping Centre (on first floor by lift next to WHSmith) but Sainsbury's does not.
It's about 20 minutes walk to Bexleyheath Station along Church Road but there are buses from the Broadway.

I walked this on a winter morning from Erith to Bexleyheath. Some wind, but no rain.

From Erith it is mostly along quiet residential streets. After crossing the railway the route first goes through Barnehurst Park. No actual footpath, but easy to follow along the edge. It was a little muddy.

When you come out of the park, and after another short stretch along residential roads, the path trough Marten's Grove was lovely (photo #1). Then more streets (photo #2) until you end up at the town centre (photo #3).

Good and fairly quiet urban walk, with plenty of green.

I walked from Erith to Bexleyheath on a wintry afternoon. I had created the route to avoid walking along the A220, I'm not a fan of busy urban roads. Even so I was a bit surprised how pleasant and quiet I found it. Easy to follow (maybe I'm biased though) even in the parks. It was clear which route to take through Martens Grove and although there was no trodden path in Barnehurst Op Sp, you just follow the scrub along the side of the park.

This route is probably accessible on wheels, although I ran the route and so may not have registered things e.g. kerb drops or narrow pavements. The only non paved part is the grassy slope in Barnehurst Open Space, but Manor Way runs parallel and just outside the park and it would be a very simple diversion. There are a couple of slightly steep but short sections.
