02 Oct 2022I walked this from Beeston to Clifton. I’m not familiar with the area and enjoyed the different scenery and varied environments it passes through. It follows level pavements and surfaced paths in the main, with no steps or stiles or steep gradients. The exception, as previous reviewers have said, is the bridleway up from the riverside path to Clifton. There had been a lot of rain the night before and while it wasn’t especially muddy or slippery but I agree it probably could be after prolonged wet weather so for that reason I give it a 4, rather than a 5 as only section not fully accessible. It was a lovely path through the woods though and I did enjoy the variation after walking by the river.
I found it easy enough to follow as a non local, but make sure you take the track on the right, not the towpath, once you’ve crossed the Beeston canal (photo 4) or you will be on the wrong side of a wall! Also keep straight along the road way and don’t follow the riverside path signed city centre /west bridgford (photo 9).

20 Aug 2022Walked from Clifton to Beeston. Mostly a good route and familiar to me - the only unfamiliar parts were some of the roads at the Clifton end, and the road past Sat Bains restaurant (I have previously always used more of the riverside path). It is as direct as possible given the lack of bridges over the right part of the Trent.
As Stephen says, it is only the section through the woods above the Trent that is unsurfaced, and this is a little steep. It is only slippery when wet - it was bone dry today and very easy going, though unsuitable for wheelchairs and buggies.
A couple of minor points that surprised me - the roundabout where Green Lane meets the A453 has pelican crossings all the way round, so why cross the southern end when the routes in and out are on the north side of Green Lane? And I personally prefer to stay on the riverside path as far as Beeston Marina and walk a little further, but these are minor quibbles, and I have no hesitation recommending this as a Slow Way.

16 Feb 2022This is a good way to get between these sites, bearing in mind they are separated by the River Trent. I walked the route from Beeston in February. It was wet, and had been wet for several days. The route leaves Beeston on quiet suburban roads with pavements. Clear of the town it follows a track parallel to the Nottingham Canal before joining the Trent Valley Way along the river bank. There is a bridleway (surfaced road) which veers away from the river bank and joins the end of the Clifton bridge. Across the bridge, well segregated from traffic, and the route rejoins the riverside path on the south bank. After half a mile or so I took the bridleway which climbs the to Clifton Grove. This was muddy and slippery, the only section of the route which is not on a surfaced path. Eventually the route enters the suburbs of Clifton and follows first residential estate roads and then the main road with a wide verge. An enjoyable and varied route, but best saved for better weather !.
