Surveys
We are working to build-up a picture of what routes look like. To do that we are asking volunteers to survey routes so that we can communicate features, obstacles and challenges that may make a route desirable or not.
Slow Ways surveyors are asked to complete some basic online training, but they are not vetted. If you are dependent on the survey information being correct in order to complete a route, we recommend that you think critically about the information provided. You may also wish to wait until more than one survey has been completed.
Help people know more about this route by volunteering to submit a survey.

07 Feb 2022I did not find the 1st section of the route out of Barnsley Interchange "pedestrian friendly" . There are dropped kerbs to cross roads but few controlled crossings and the vehicles were travelling fast especially as I had to cross A61 slip roads on the Barnsley inner ring road with no marked or controlled crossings. I had to be v quick on my feet and v aware of which way traffic was moving. This route would be better going through the main town centre and using crossings to get to the west side of the Sheffield Rd, go south and then east to get to Barnsley Cemetery.
Its all paved footways up to there and after the road to the side of the cemetery the path goes across fields which are muddy and not accessible to pushchairs etc and best to have boots on. It gets very muddy from the cemetery (see photo 1) over the hill skirting the houses (see photo 2) towards Worsborough. The route returns to paved footways down towards Worsborough via a v steep set of steps next to the churchyard (hand rails are there but v poorly fitted to cope with my average height - see photo 3). There are no marked or controlled crossings to get to Worsborough High St and we walked up the road to get a better crossing point but we still had to be fleet of foot with the speeding traffic. Worsborough Dale has a nice park for a sit, rest and a picnic.
