Surveys
We are working to build-up a picture of what routes look like. To do that we are asking volunteers to survey routes so that we can communicate features, obstacles and challenges that may make a route desirable or not.
Slow Ways surveyors are asked to complete some basic online training, but they are not vetted. If you are dependent on the survey information being correct in order to complete a route, we recommend that you think critically about the information provided. You may also wish to wait until more than one survey has been completed.
Help people know more about this route by volunteering to submit a survey.

25 Mar 2024Overall, I recommend using Axbwel two because it is a better walk overall but just to note that this route is walkable all the way and is exactly the same for much of the walk. It would be a good option if the public access around Cheddar reservoir were ever to be temporarily closed (I have never known it to be).
Re the two issues encountered by Mtwomey...
The path to the north of the reservoir is fine to walk usually - not always guarded by feisty cows! - but does get very wet in the muddy season at the southern end before it meets the Strawberry line, so best avoided in winter.
The short, non-navigable bit at Bradley cross is indeed obscured by vegetation in the summer season but it easy enough to push through. However it is a dark, damp, stony path and it really is much easier to just continue around the road instead, as he suggests.

22 May 2022I walked this route from Axbridge to Wells. While it's great, there was one spot that wasn't navigable when I walked in May, and I had trouble with a field of cows that was easily avoided around Cheddar. I've uploaded an updated version that fixes these and several other minor issues!.

01 Jun 2022Hi, it would be really helpful if you could add to your review exactly where the access problem was, ie with a w3w locator or something, and what it was (ie scrubbed up etc). I am doing this route myself at the moment and I don't remember any access problems from previous walking in the area, although I haven't been through for a while. Thanks

01 Jun 2022Good shout. It's the short stretch of path running east from ///glides.shelving.guests to ///octagon.tasty.jazz, where the route goes into a path instead of following Bradley Cross Lane just east of Cheddar. I'd recommend checking out my Axbwel two, which is nearly identical but slightly tweaked, I hope that works for you! It's a great route.

01 Jun 2022Also, sorry, it was super overgrown on the east end (///glides.shelving.guests) and I couldn't find the entrance to the path on the west end (///octagon.tasty.jazz) so I was perfectly happy just sticking to Bradley Cross Lane!!

01 Jun 2022Thanks for that and also for quick reply! I'll review both routes together as I go
