Surveys
We are working to build-up a picture of what routes look like. To do that we are asking volunteers to survey routes so that we can communicate features, obstacles and challenges that may make a route desirable or not.
Slow Ways surveyors are asked to complete some basic online training, but they are not vetted. If you are dependent on the survey information being correct in order to complete a route, we recommend that you think critically about the information provided. You may also wish to wait until more than one survey has been completed.

29 Jun 2022An excellent, easy to follow route. Mainly on paths and byways. Superb views the gpx track could be tidied up a bit, but was obvious.

04 Oct 2021Very pleasurable walk between two historic villages with pubs and cafes. The route is almost all through farmland pastures and green lanes. There is a short section on the levels but most is along the low hills stretching north-west of Wedmore, with frequent views across to the Mendip scarp and sometimes also the Poldens, the distant Quantocks, Brent Knoll and Glastonbury Tor.
It is all easily walkable and looks to be regularly walked but has the usual rural mixture of slightly patchy signage, variable stiles (one or two in poor condition), some easy step-over footpath gates, others tied with string and one fully padlocked, including the footpath inset gate, which had to be climbed. Also, after a week of heavy rain, the cow track into Frogshole dairy Farm was puddled and slurried, though still with a hard surface underneath.
I would definitely walk this again though and I'd recommend it to others.

04 Oct 2021This is a lovely walk, which we made circular-ish, by cycling from Wedmore to Axbridge, along quiet country lanes mostly, locking the bikes up, walking the slow way back and picking up the car.
Axbridge and Wedmore are both pretty little towns on the Levels and the route either way takes you up onto a small ridge for most of the stroll with great views to Cheddar Gorge, Glastonbury Tor and the Mendips, as well as the Poldens and Quantocks in the further West. Easy walking with a lovely orchard, a few dodgy stiles, the odd locked farm gate and a short slurry covered road. Route finding is generally ok - there were some places where the footpath signs were absent, and I was glad for the OS map on my phone.
Overall, very suitable and pleasing addition to the Slowways portfolio.
