Surveys
We are working to build-up a picture of what routes look like. To do that we are asking volunteers to survey routes so that we can communicate features, obstacles and challenges that may make a route desirable or not.
Slow Ways surveyors are asked to complete some basic online training, but they are not vetted. If you are dependent on the survey information being correct in order to complete a route, we recommend that you think critically about the information provided. You may also wish to wait until more than one survey has been completed.
Help people know more about this route by volunteering to submit a survey.

26 Jun 2023Very nice route. Not too long but quite hilly. A good mix of lane working and footpaths.

10 Mar 2023I really enjoyed this SlowWay. Both Ashburton and Bovey Tracey are great local towns with a good range of interesting independent shops & cafés. It makes a good half day walk (or a pub walk, stopping for lunch at the Carpenters Arms in Ilsington!). Both Ashburton & Bovey are well served by a regular bus service.
The route is not accessible for all, with steps, stiles & steep gradients (typical of the area).
I walked from Ashburton to Bovey. The route leads out of town along pavement then turns up steps to a footpath which runs through fields & woodland & enclosed lane. From Owlacombe Cross it follows quiet country lanes with very little traffic.
Approaching Ilsington it descends Simms Hill an unmetalled lane, famous in motor trials for its steep gradient! I walked it a couple of days before an annual trial so markers had been set out for that. Normally it would not see much traffic!
The route continues on quiet lanes past Ilsington - pub & community shop - cutting through Ilsington Wood on a footpath, then lanes & finally pavement sections into Bovey.

02 Jun 2022This is a great walk.
I went from Bovey Tracey to Ashburton, and took a slightly different route for the first section.
