Surveys
We are working to build-up a picture of what routes look like. To do that we are asking volunteers to survey routes so that we can communicate features, obstacles and challenges that may make a route desirable or not.
Slow Ways surveyors are asked to complete some basic online training, but they are not vetted. If you are dependent on the survey information being correct in order to complete a route, we recommend that you think critically about the information provided. You may also wish to wait until more than one survey has been completed.
Help people know more about this route by volunteering to submit a survey.

03 Mar 2024Walked this from Arundel to Findon on 2/3/24. Very pleasant - nice stroll along the Arun with views of the castle, then a nice wander along the valley from Warningcamp into Wepham wood. The Angmering Estate part is along metalled roads but nice enough. I have to recommend a rerouting however because of the crossing of Long Furlong which is really dangerous - blind bend, very fast traffic. Giving it a good rating nonetheless, as if that could be fixed it would be a lovely route.

19 Aug 2022I really enjoyed walking this route! The views of the castle from the river Arun are very special. The walk takes you through some beautiful countryside and magical woodlands. I combined this route with the route from Steyning to Findon. I'd defo recommend walking both routes!.

19 Aug 2022This is a brilliant route. Really enjoy coming in to Arundel at sunset with the castle ahead of us.
The right of way to the west of the A280 is not accessible (or does not exist). If approaching from the east, simply cross directly over the road onto the lane and follow it around.
Before this route I walked to Findon from Steyning. I highly recommend combining the two Slow Ways.

09 Aug 2022Walked this on a very sunny day, enjoyed the cover of trees along Angmering park estate! A small section of the bridleway in the woods near warningcamp was temporarily closed due to logging to prevent ash dieback.

24 Mar 2022I walked this on 18/03/2022 from Findon to Arundel as Leg#2 of a Steyning->FIN->ARU.
Within the first mile of leaving the centre of Findon you have to cross two busy roads A24 and A280, where care is needed. However, after that the route becomes progressively more peaceful. It follows the Monarch's Way from Findon Place all the way to Arundel. It is well signed and for the most part the paths are wide and easy to follow.
There is a short, steep climb from the hamlet of Michelgrove up into the woods of the Angmering Estate. Through the woods the path starts off wide and muddy, then becomes more well made and a drive suitable for vehicles. Nonetheless when I walked it, it was very quiet with only the occasional cyclist.
The field in the valley below Warningcamp Hill contained half a dozen young cattle, but they were minding their own business.
At the Arundel end, the route crosses the railway tracks but this route is not very busy. Then the final section is along the levee of the River Arun into Arundel.
A nice peaceful route once away from the A280. The occasional gate, but no stiles. There are no refreshment opportunities along the way.
