07 Dec 2025This Slow Way is mostly on the Armadale to Mallaig ferry across the Sound of Sleat. It’s a great way alternative way to get on to the Isle of Skye in summer, not so reliable in winter.
The route plot is rather poor but it is easy enough to work out what it means. Basically it is a walk along a quiet minor road out of Ardvasar village (with, I think, a little path through the woods option next to it - but I haven’t checked that) and then a short walk to and from the ferry terminals at either end.
The ferry itself runs all year but has a more limited service in winter and it tends to get cancelled in bad weather. The Calmac website has timetables and service updates.
Mallaig has train services to Fort William and beyond (it’s an exceptionally beautiful railway journey to Fort William) and there is a limited Skye bus service from the Armadale ferry terminal.
