Surveys
We are working to build-up a picture of what routes look like. To do that we are asking volunteers to survey routes so that we can communicate features, obstacles and challenges that may make a route desirable or not.
Slow Ways surveyors are asked to complete some basic online training, but they are not vetted. If you are dependent on the survey information being correct in order to complete a route, we recommend that you think critically about the information provided. You may also wish to wait until more than one survey has been completed.

18 Feb 2022Quieter alternative route
Needs more navigation than Aldsut one and easy to miss turn in Sutton park care needed by Golf course
Still a worthy Slow Way.

19 Sep 2021I started this route from Sutton Coldfield. The first section across Sutton Park is delightful and very easy to follow. Fairly late on the route takes a turn to the left which is really easy to miss. I know this because I managed to miss it the first time I walked a Slow Way across this park. The route is definitely quieter but takes some navigating and comes down the side of the golf course which frequently requires an interaction with the golfers. Crossing into residential streets of Streetly I managed to miss my turn but was aware within 50 metres, of my mistake. The route snakes its way through quiet suburban neighbourhood streets before coming out on to the main, Hardwick Road. Where it meets Chester Road there is a pub, shops, restaurant and takeaway. The next section, Bourne Vale is a 40mph main road past Streetly Cemetery and a couple of sports grounds. The pavement is wide enough to feel thoroughly safe. At the end it turns right into Erdington Road which takes you to the edge of Aldridge. The last section was the least enjoyable. You are directed up an alleyway which takes you up a hill and along a road to a spot where.... you are a few metres away from the road you would have been on had you just gone straight on. There are a few more left and up and left and up sections to bring you on to Whetstone Lane. The chance to see the very pretty St Mary of the Angels Church is possibly the one reward for the extra climbs and map reading. The walk across the big green to the meeting place was nice too. A good walk, maybe I might have appreciated it more had it not been a quiet Saturday morning (the roads were not busy) and if I had walked it in the opposite direction. It loses a point for making the walk less direct and harder to follow. Safe, beautiful, well served and for at least half of it, offroad. A worthy Slow Way.

02 May 2021From Aldridge walk through the park and quiet back roads to join the main road. This road and the road past Bourne Vale are both fairly busy but there is a footpath all the way. Past the Hardwick Arms pub the route takes back roads to Sutton Park.
