Surveys
We are working to build-up a picture of what routes look like. To do that we are asking volunteers to survey routes so that we can communicate features, obstacles and challenges that may make a route desirable or not.
Slow Ways surveyors are asked to complete some basic online training, but they are not vetted. If you are dependent on the survey information being correct in order to complete a route, we recommend that you think critically about the information provided. You may also wish to wait until more than one survey has been completed.

This would be a 5-star route, but for a couple of access issues along the way. The alternative Abeusk2 route was created to avoid the problems covered below
The first access problem is at Llanover. The route follows a right of way from just off Bridge 81 of the Mon & Brec canal through the fields to the main A4042 road. The footpath has been blocked for many years at the road end and there`s no easy way out on to the road. I assume this small detour was intended to take in a cafe on the main road in Llanover, before returning to the canal, but as the cafe was permanently closed in 2022, it`s now a bit pointless, so may as well just continue along the canal path straight through to Goytre Wharf.
The second point is similar. After walking over the railway bridge in the village of Nantyderry, opposite the pub the route takes a left turn down a farm lane. The path is well signed and accessible at first, but after turning right into the fields it disappears and there is no way through. At the point where it is supposed to emerge onto the road it is completely blocked. As far as I can tell from talking to the locals there has never been a bridge to cross the stream, so I suppose it was a ford in the past. The alternative is to just carry on down the main lane, which is fairly quiet, to pass the point where the footpath is supposed to emerge.
