- hi, where the route intersects with the m62, there is no bridge or underpass. i have walked this route many times. there is the option of walking over m62 at junction 19 roundabout. this would involve deviating along middleton road A6046 and down oaken lane. oaken bank road. . if you follow this deviation you can get back on that path by turning right after heywood fire station on follow the path through the back lanes it is signposted behind pheonix brewery green lane business park. the path actually leeds around a horse field which is very pleasant to walk and up alongside the business area follow an old dissused steam train railway line at pillar wedge galvanising factory and down the track back to green lane turn right then left into cross street and that turns into railway street at east lancs railway heywood steam railway station where you can get back on your suggetsed route to heywood at manchester street a6046 and cowburn street. alternatively. the path at pillar wedge if you turn right and head across the permissive walking path at castle hawk golf club goes directly alongside the dissused railway line in opposite direction up heywood road to castleton railway station which is on the rochdale manchester canal you can follow this back to middleton and is also very pleasant and has two very good pubs the hopwood which serves food and has a huge beer gardent adjacent to the canal or the ship at slattocks top lock from here you can sit directly on the canal wher ethe opposite field has geese ducks and horses and is very relaxing way to have a well earned rest. from here you can trace back along the canal to middleton using your middleton to rochdale slow ways map.
