  • Hedwit one would be a lovely route, but on walking it on Tuesday I discovered a major problem, which is Burstwick Drain. Halfway through the route the gpx track crosses Burstwick Drain. But there is no bridge. This is a deep waterway, more like a small canal. The banks of the watercourse are about 5 metres deep, and the waterway is about 4 metres wide. I don’t know how deep the water is but looked to be full of sewage. It’s completely impassable. There’s no sign that there ever was a bridge. There isn’t one marked on the OS maps - but the way the footpaths are drawn on the OS 1:25,000 makes it look as if the paths either side of the waterway are linked. So I can understand how the route got drawn. But the waterway definitely cannot be crossed. Unfortunately there isn’t a nearby workaround. I have surveyed either side of the route, and could upload my survey, however I’m not sure that there is much point in doing so, given that it’s just not a walkable route due to this problem. What I have done today is mapped and walked (run) an alternative Hedon - Withernsea route. It’s quite different and avoids the Burstwick Drain problem. I’ll upload the gpx file and add my survey and review. Reported 21 May 2021
