    1. For this photo survey of the Derbor route, I started at Derby and finished at Borrowash. The “distance from start“ mentioned for each photo is from Derby. The route is relatively accessible - with quite good surfaces and with no stiles, steps, or gates to negotiate. The photo is of the step- free access to the riverside path from behind Derby bus station. 0.16 km from start — 09 Sep 2021

    2. The route goes through this bridge, one of several that the path goes under. The path often goes into a dip under bridges, giving a gradient either side. The maximum gradient I noted on the route was 10%. 0.94 km from start — 09 Sep 2021

    5. Signpost on the route. The whole route is on National Cycle Route 6 which goes through Derby and Nottingham , and is well used by bikes. From here, the sign to Alvaston is the direction towards Borrowash. 2.34 km from start — 09 Sep 2021

    9. With the path being along by the river, a note for any of us who might be walking with children. The distance between the path and the river varies - in this photo the river is about 3 metres from the path, and in some places as close as 2 metres. 4.74 km from start — 09 Sep 2021

    12. Another thing I noticed regarding safety of any children with us - paths like this are cut through the undergrowth beside the main path, giving access down the bank to fishing stages. Often these fishing stages aren’t visible from the main path, at the bottom of the picture. 6.4 km from start — 09 Sep 2021

    13. The minimum width I saw on the route was 1.2 metre, but it was generally wider, as here. 6.15 km from start — 09 Sep 2021

    15. Where the route wasn’t paved (about a third of the route), it was in most places a firm base with a little loose gravel on top. 6.78 km from start — 09 Sep 2021

    16. There were some patches of coarser stones, they still appeared to make a firm surface, although obviously rather rougher for wheels. 5.11 km from start — 09 Sep 2021

    17. View looking towards Borrowash, at 380 metres before the B 5010 is reached. The best route to take from here is the more obvious one anyway, the gravel path going round to the right. The GPX route appears to go up the slope and onto the private road at the top, then the GPX route turns right to take us along that private road. This has gates across it (which were open when I saw them but look as though they probably get closed and padlocked). The gravel path on the right runs parallel to the private road and comes out on the B 5010 beside it. The gravel path is a public footpath and a cycleway. 7.26 km from start — 09 Sep 2021

    20. Signs at the entrance to the gravel cycleway on the B 5010,including public footpath waymarkers. The entrance to the cycleway from the road is at least 1200mm wide. 7.64 km from start — 09 Sep 2021

    21. If walking in the Borrowash to Derby direction, the entrance to the gravel cycleway is by the signpost on the left of the steel gate. The cycleway is a better option than the private road on the right of the photo, even though the GPS might appear to be leading up the private road. 7.65 km from start — 09 Sep 2021

    23. Photo of pavement beside the B5010, looking towards Borrowash. The final 800 metres of the route at the Borrowash end is on pavement. The only roads crossed on the whole route are in Borrowash and all have dropped kerbs (or very low ones). 7.71 km from start — 09 Sep 2021
