    1. This walk is from Horsham station to Crawley station - the first 3 miles is along the High Weald Landscape Trail. Leaving the station you walk along Depot Road past Milais school to the start of Hampers Lane. This photo shows where the lane leaves the houses behind and drops down to the Horn Brook (?) and the start of the High Weald ANOB. 1.9 km from start — 17 Aug 2021

    2. At the end of Hampers Lane you turn right (south) onto the bridleway. The first 100 yards can be very muddy after rain. Walkers can usually avoid the worst, but this gate is a bottleneck when wet. Turn left immediately after the gate. 2.7 km from start — 17 Aug 2021

    3. The footpath along this section is now very narrow and overgrown, since most people now walk in the field the "wrong" side of the hedge (although the owner could stop this in the future). 2.8 km from start — 17 Aug 2021

    4. An awkward step at the start of the fenced section. 3 km from start — 17 Aug 2021

    5. Beyond here the path is hemmed in both sides by fences so it is narrow and can have muddy parts that are difficult to avoid. 3.1 km from start — 17 Aug 2021

    6. Narrow Kissing gate where the trail crosses a private track. After passing through the gate keep to the RHS of the field and head towards the far right corner where it enters St Leonards Forest (to the right of the MotorX circuit). 3.3 km from start — 17 Aug 2021

    7. This photo is looking back up the steep (and often muddy) slope down to the stream as soon as you enter the forest. It's steeper than it looks! 3.6 km from start — 17 Aug 2021

    8. After crossing the stream go up the main track until you see this smaller foot path to the left. 4 km from start — 17 Aug 2021

    9. At the top of the ridge you will arrive at the middle of a wide track that is Mick Mill's (Mile) Race which run in a straight line almost due north / south for a mile. Turn left (north) and walk to the end. Follow the track as it continues to the right. 4.7 km from start — 17 Aug 2021

    10. A good spot for a rest (if you don't mind dragons!) 4.8 km from start — 17 Aug 2021

    11. Gate at the exit of the forest track. Carry on to the main road and turn right. There is no footpath here so keep to the verge (see next photo). 5.7 km from start — 17 Aug 2021

    12. Entering Colgate village - note the lack of any footpath until you get nearer the village. 6.1 km from start — 17 Aug 2021

    13. Another dragon! The only place for refreshment until you get to Ifield (but you're not halfway yet!). Follow the road down the hill and bend to ther right. The footpath ends here but you need to go on another 100 metres so be careful as there isn't any verge. 6.3 km from start — 17 Aug 2021

    14. The start of the footpath into Holmbush Forest is on the left just past a house. The sign is not easy to spot until you are close to it. 7 km from start — 17 Aug 2021

    15. Follow the bridlepath through the forest. It can be quite muddy in places after rain. 8 km from start — 17 Aug 2021

    16. This is where the track through the forest ends at the main A264 dual carriageway. The old route is straight across the road and down a narrow and overgrown footpath immediately to the right of the "castle". Not recommended for the faint hearted, especially when busy. The safer route is to use the new path the the traffic lights 100m yds to the left. After crossing safely follow the signs that take you back to the path. 9 km from start — 17 Aug 2021

    17. If you don't take the safer route via the crossing this is the first section of the old path, overgrown with nettles and brambles in the summer months. You have been warned. The path is OK once the new route rejoins it. Continue along it past the houses on your right. Once you cross the stream (at apx 10km) turn right to follow it. 9.1 km from start — 17 Aug 2021

    18. Follow the path as it leaves the wood and continues to the right of some houses. When you reach a road turn left on to the path over the railway bridge and then turn sharp right. Continue along the path to Ifield Mill - good place for a rest / picnic (11.2 km) Take the path over the weir past the mill and turn right at the road. Follow the road and turn right along Tangmere Road. At the end turn right again towards Ifield station BUT cross the road and go along the footpath BEFORE the road to the left (12km). 11.2 km from start — 17 Aug 2021

    19. Follow the path past Ifield Community College and turn left when it meets the bypass, then right under the bypass. 13 km from start — 17 Aug 2021
