Help connect Yetminster
Many Slow Ways have several route options. Some will be better than others, or good for different reasons.
Our goal is for each Slow Way to have at least one route that is verified and surveyed. To be verified – and get its snail badge – a route needs at least three positive reviews.
Give a hike and help get a for every one of Yetminster’s Slow Ways.

This route is mostly off road, crossing farmland, but is tough going in the winter. Much of the farmland sections aren't very walker friendly in that the footpath signs are gone or damaged, there are fields of crops to cross, and many of the stiles and gateways are in a sad state of repair, often with barbed wire or electric fences presenting an additional hazard....

Loved so much about this route! I agree with the other reviews....

Would be good if someone looked after the path a bit better in places, but I enjoyed it....

You'd want to have some waterproof boots or shoes if it's been raining or been wet for a while. It's otherwise a great route....

Walk this routeI'd 100% walk this route again (despite the nettles, gates and puddles)....

There's about 3km/2 miles of road walking at the Yetminster End where you'll need to walk carefully....

At Charing Cross Farm the map on Slow Ways suggests you walk to the west of the farm buildings then turn east.My OS map says to go through the farmyard and a little round footpath sign sent me this very way - a good chance to see the cattle indoors. After the second stile keep the hedge on your right for a time then cross and keep it on your left. After the large house on the left, Church Farm, you could take a side trip to Hilfield Church 200 metres away. You then follow a gravel road a short distance and take the left hand of 2 metal gates. A much nicer walk into the village - and no further distance - is to turn first left off Duck St, pass the village hall and turn right to walk along the River Cerne, emerging at Abbey House, built with materials from the enormous Abbey after 1537. There is a steep walk up Piddle Lane, with a few passing cars, but the turn to the left onto the field is well signed. Piddletrenthide Church, is a short detour from the point where the slow way turns right you now head due south keeping the road and river at the valley bottom to the left....

Most of the walk is along the Macmillan Way, but unfortunately it's not a well maintained trail, so expect overgrown stretches, especially around the stiles. The path went through the middle of the field, but fortunately the cows were placid, despite my dog barking at them. So, the first third of the walk is across farmland, mostly pasture. After the wood, is the final third of the walk, and it's over arable farmland and then lanes and roads into Sherborne. This is a very rural walk, not well maintained but passable....

A most enjoyable, quiet country side walk, like into the old days....

When I walked in July the wildflowers were out and I was accompanied by various species of butterflies most of the time....

In places the signage isn't very good so it isn't always clear which route you should take....

Walk this routeThe route is fine except for Coles Lane in Yetminster, which was flooded, and only passable in Wellies. We hadn't had a lot of rain in recent weeks, so it is probably a very common problem. YeoYet 2 avoided this lane....

Helen Gough added Creyet two, a new walk from Crewkerne to Yetminster
Walk this routeAlthough the route follows a public footpath, there is no way through Lower Penhill Farm. Coming from the Yetminster direction, you will get stuck in the farmyard setting off their alarms. Use CreYet two instead....
