Nice route with plenty of road walking from Polesworth through Dordon, into an industrial park and then finally a nice country section before entering Wood End....

Good Slow Ways Route apart from the last part which i have now managed to walk with no shooting going on, but recommend following the track straight on which comes out at the same point only a bit muddy as foot path to the left is very overgrown with brambles...

Nice route with a variety of terrains ranging from arable fields, woodland areas, some quiet roads and a short section of busier road with footpath beside....

The short section alongside the A5 needs care if you have children but once on the diverted footpath along the disused railway it's safe. The road could provide a direct route to Wood End but it had a fair bit of traffic, the path across the field avoids this and has the benefit of a good view southwards before meeting the pavement for a safe walk finish....

A difficult single sleeper ditch crossing contrasts with the convenience of gates. A bridge provides a safe crossing of the A5 then it's urban through Dordon and St Helena to enter Polesworth across Abbey Green Park. The single sleeper ditch crossing has no handrail so in frosty conditions could be treacherous....

This may be a nice route which I didn't walk but is it a Slow Way? I think not. Eight miles when it could be three miles less....

Beyond the edge of Atherstone there is a short section along the pavement of the A5, but you soon leave to join the wooded footpath and its views towards Merevale. There is a short section of lane walking along "Waste Lane" up Waste Hill but the lane is open and there are spaces to move to the side, I felt safe throughout. There is another short section of lane walking beyond it, where some caution is needed but you seen take a footpath to the left which crosses a field to Wood End....

Walk this routeThe route out of the quiet village of Wood End is straight forward and the footpath which leads down through the fields is easy to follow. Any sense of the countryside disappears as you pass the steel fence of a container yard and walk along the very well maintained footpath. The route into Polesworth is via a footpath and bridge past the Church of St Editha, but it's easy to divert via the stops and shops of the High Street if you need provisions....

Walk this routeWe did have to deviate slightly from the route just north of Wood End where the path was overgrown and again North of the Birch Coppice Business Park where the path was unmarked but we used a nearby track. One of my companions summed it up nicely by saying that the walk was so diverse the miles just flew by. Although she did say that it would be nice if the dog walkers kept their dogs on leads so that everyone could enjoy the walk, not just the dog walkers!...

Mostly kissing gates on the field paths, some cross field paths but no significant mud even after a fair bit of rain....

A safe and interesting walk with no rights of way issues. An interesting mix of contemporary and historical points of interest! We also had a very good leader!...

While a gate at Delves Farm indicated the route of the footpath away from the farm track the enclosed path was seriously overgrown so I remained on the track and found a gate at the other end. Escaping from this, things improved with a walk down the field edge to cross the railway at Overhouse Farm from where a waymarked stile led to a wide clear track and into Birch Coppice Business Park. Crossing the A5 by a light controlled crossing the next footpath was unsigned and not apparent across the field but a short detour offered a track onto which the footpath linked....
