Help connect Winsford

Many Slow Ways have several route options. Some will be better than others, or good for different reasons.

Our goal is for each Slow Way to have at least one route that is verified and surveyed. To be verified – and get its snail badge – a route needs at least three positive reviews.

Give a hike and help get a for every one of Winsford’s Slow Ways.

At the next junction, along another unpaved road, which becomes a track and then a sometimes muddy footpath into the woods of Delamere. Past the carparks, the footpath ducks down into some woods, before coming out onto a track heading towards the railway station. A short unpaved road, but with wide verges, brings us to the main road, now paved, and we soon join the Whitegate Way via a flight of steps and a gate. The route then suggests to join the track/unpaved road, but I found it best to continue across the course following the main footpath, and then, past the tall fences on our left, take a footpath to the right heading towards the cluster of buildings ahead....

It came out close to Delamere Station, along a fenced off track just south of the private golf course access road. The descent into Kelsall was quiet and offered glimpses of an excellent view, but I suspect the best viewpoint would have been from a very short detour to the masts on Pale Heights just to the south west of Delamere Forest....

Until you get to Little Budworth you pass various properties, including one where the path is fenced in. There's some pavement pounding along the main road which might not be to everyone's tastes, but it's safe and there's a pub at the junction with B5152. Leaving the main road, a path takes you past an equestrian centre which was in full flow when I walked past. It's a really lovely section of path across the field with the ascent in the woods ahead of you. I'd suggest a route which from Little Budworth, heading east, follows the footpaths to arrive into Winsford via Hebden Green....

Next, approaching the canal was a great combination of quiet farm tracks and footpaths, largely easily navigable. Finally, the approach into Crewe is admirably quiet and green, with just a little bit of the last stretch along major roads....

I walked Wincre 2, but I am able to confirm that Wincre 1, which is almost the same and could be viewed from Wincre 2, is unsuitable to be included in the network due to the busy narrow road at Church Minshull, as described by Ken....

This leads out on to a short section of lane walking. Beyond Clive House we discovered the right of way to be unused as we were able to follow a path on to the lane. Moss Lane itself was intriguing in that it is a straight but narrow country lane which seems to be very well used by locals on foot and was really pleasant to follow. Moss Lane leads to the edge of Crewe and the route to the meeting place follows green ways through the suburbs and then a fairly direct route by pavement through the town centre, including the bus station....
