Help connect West Kirby
Many Slow Ways have several route options. Some will be better than others, or good for different reasons.
Our goal is for each Slow Way to have at least one route that is verified and surveyed. To be verified – and get its snail badge – a route needs at least three positive reviews.
Give a hike and help get a for every one of West Kirby’s Slow Ways.

The walk takes you up to a monument at the top of the hill above West Kirby (a short section of steep steps) and then along through well walked paths, which I suspect would be muddy in winter, through wooded areas at highish level. After a while there is a car park for Thurstaston Hill and you can take respite for a short while by crossing the road to this and taking the path parallel to the main road, to rejoin it a little later. The walk then goes down a road without a path for a short while to the picturesque St Bartholemews Church and then along well walked clear paths and tracks at high level with occasional good views across the estuary to join the road after Oldfield farm....

It follows the coast from West Kirby to the western corner of the Wirral before heading along a straight road into Hoylake....
Mary Oz
From Woodchurch it headed straight into Arrowe Park along a tree-lined path. The route wound down a couple of quiet roads, through a corner of Ashton Park and onto the Wirral Way (a former railway line) into West Kirby....

Arthur Ramshaw added Weshes two, a new walk from West Kirby to Heswall
Walk this routeThe path is shared between pedestrians and cyclists so can be busy, but the path is wide enough not to cause many issues. After rain, mud can make some sections less accessible....
Team Tato
The long path along the golf course is a little narrow though and - as it is shared between pedestrians and cyclists - it can sometimes cause a little irritation between both parties when it is busy (as during our walk)....
Team Tato
A lovely green walk through some scenic parts of the Wirral including fields and forests. Unfortunately, due to its almost entirely unpaved nature, this route would likely be difficult for anyone with a wheelchair or pram. Cycling likewise not recommended as some parts specifically prohibit bikes....
Team Tato
Some sections are not accessible to wheelchairs, but the majority of it is along wide and flat paths, with amenities at either end....
Hiking Historian
A very short and easy Slow Way. Pavement and footpath between two stations....
Hiking Historian
Very good for hikers and cyclists, but some areas exclude wheelchairs and buggies due to terrain and gate access....
Hiking Historian
Fantastic route on footpaths and paved roads, but route from Caldy Hill doesn't exist! Despite marked on OS, it does not exist on the ground, passing through thick heather, gorse and new trees. Shall submit slightly amended WESWOO Two....

Hiking Historian added Weswoo two, a new walk from West Kirby to Woodchurch
Walk this routeThe route is almost completely on tarmac or paved surfaces, with about half road walking and half along a tarmac path. There are very few obstacles so suitable for wheelchairs and pushchairs. Not a very exciting walk though, very little to see along the way....

This route is recommended for all types of walking/wheelchair users on a tarmacadam footway; safe and easily accessible. The pathway adjacent to the rail line (on your left) opens out with the municipal golf course on the right. Emerging from the footpath at Hoylake is the wonderful Art Deco !930's railway station....
DavidB
The route starts off on the road but there’s a footpath slightly set back from the road to start off with. After a section down a residential street you reach West Kirby football club. It was a little confusing about which way to go but look for the footpath sign on the left....
