Help connect Wembley
Many Slow Ways have several route options. Some will be better than others, or good for different reasons.
Our goal is for each Slow Way to have at least one route that is verified and surveyed. To be verified – and get its snail badge – a route needs at least three positive reviews.
Give a hike and help get a for every one of Wembley’s Slow Ways.

May I just start off by saying this route takes you through a wild beaver colony!...

The initial 200m is a bit shoddy, but you soon enter quiet suburban streets and shortly after the lengthy canal side walk....

I walked this route from Kingsbury to Wembley on a cold sleety morning that encouraged a brisk pace....

There's a fairly level path through a (disused) car park which meets the over-the-top path in 450 metres....

I didn't quite do the loop around the stadium, but instead followed the Wembley Park Boulevard. An improvement could be crossing the rail way at Renters Lane, instead of going around the roundabout(s) just north of the North Circular....

I did see a beaver canal, a dam and freshly bitten tree stems in Paradise Fields but not the beavers or kits but that was a stretch, especially in daytime, so I'll take it as a successful mission!...

Maybe if you walked it at a quieter time of day (it was 6.30 pm) it would be less hazardous but the route is very desirable for commuters on bikes and there were a lot of them speeding along (many electric) so we couldn’t relax until we were off the canal and back on the roads....
Louise070
I did this as part of a circular route from Kingsbury via Brent Cross, Kilburn and Wembley, returning to Kingsbury....
John Scott
A fascinating insight into old and new Kilburn and Queens Park before getting on the canal which is always a pleasure....

After another parade of shops on Whitten Avenue West, you walk up onto a bridge to cross the tube, where there was quite a fair view (photo #5), before going past Sudbury Town tube station (photo #6) to continue along Harrow Road, and along Barham Park (photo #7) to end up at the busy Wembley Central station....
Derick Rethans
I would also plan to complete this route during daylight as a large section of the walk is unlit. The route has nice views and takes you away from the busy streets of the places it connects....

Perhaps it wasn't the wisest day to go out for a walk, with drizzle forecasted for most of the day, with only a sliver of hope for a bit of sunshine in the afternoon. As there were National Rail strikes going on, I decided to walk something in London, and opted for routes that I had never done, but were close to being verified. After crossing the A40 at Perivale the walk became a lot nicer with at least some greenery on the left, before crossing Perivale Park with its golf course....
Derick Rethans
After the Wembley/Sudbury section, most of the route is through suburban streets, though there's one short section of greenery through Horsenden Hill. The route is predominantly through housing built in the inter-war period, during the large-scale expansion of London suburbs. These are punctuated occasionally by the appearance of small parades of shops, like the one in the picture in Sudbury....
Martin McGovern
While there are minor inclines throughout the route, the steepest point is the pedestrian crossing over the A406 close to Brent Cross station. - The entrance to Brent Cross station the route suggests is closed after 8 pm and all day on Sunday, therefore I had to take a slightly longer route to the main entrance....
Tom
There's so much going on in just the last bit of the walk, with great parks, great historic buildings of the Harrow School, great climbs and great views....

Next follows a perfectly good though slightly uninteresting stretch of residential street walking. I'm almost certain that someone could devise a similar route that used generally the same approach but slightly different streets; overall, though, I think this is a perfectly good Slow Ways route, if you're (like me) a little uninterested in following the Grand Union Canal the whole way!...

Except to say that the works at Ealing Broadway are mostly complete, and the Elizabeth Line is running from there now....
Martin McGovern
Quite a clear route following the road down suburban streets to walk up to the High Street. Recommend this route....

The steps adjacent to the tube station were quite steep and then I struggled to find the cut through path....
Lizbiz70
After descending from the hill and going through the playing fields the route becomes urban, with nearly solely pavement walking....
Derick Rethans
WHen you set off, the arch of Wembley station is quite visible, although it is obstructed by new high rises for quite a bit now too sadly....
Derick Rethans
After walking through quiet Southall residential streets you cross a golf course between two ponds which was very wet after recent rain. Like Jamiekirk, the previous reviewer, I would take this road all the way to Wembley as it is a lively street with lots of interest, but the route as (poorly) shown takes you through quieter suburban streets and up a flight of steps to Wembley Central Station....

There's several ways to connect Wembley with Kilburn - this one has some strong points in the way it connects a number of North West London centres like a string of pearls along the way: Queens Park, Willesden Junction, Harlesden, Brent ......

However the exception is Fryent Country Park, a large open space with woodland and open grassland, on a hill near Kingsbury. Some of the paths in Fryent Park were slippery and muddy, and because it's routed along the bottom of the hill parallel to the railway the route was very soggy....

Ealing Road on the approach to Wembley is a lively high street full of South Asian shops, mosques, temples and restaurants full of interest....

Walk this routeSome walking along very busy roads (A5 in Kilburn, central Harlesden, crossing the A406 on a footbridge), and a few busy 'town centres' with lots of people (not good if walking with dog(s) or pushchairs etc)....

I walked this route from Wembley to Brent Cross. - the side entrance to the Brent cross station that this route has you take wasn’t open when I walked the route on a Sunday, but you can get to the station from Highfield Avenue no problem...

Following the paved Grand Union Canal towpath makes navigation incredibly simple, and there were lots of interesting details to keep the walk engaging, like a cool bridge, or industrial activity as the city gradually changed, or a lovely canal-side restaurant....

I agree with Jeff (first reviewer) that it may be better to follow the Capital Ring Link and Capital Ring between Harrow and South Kenton station. I'm planning to go back and check this route idea and will put up an improved Harwem in the next few weeks....

I walked from the bustling Wembley Central high-street to Harrow shopping centers with tree lined streets, Northwick Park, and Harrow School grounds on the way. Quite a pleasant walk , generally on good paths with the exception of a steep water worn track close to Harrow (soon to be repaired - Oct 21)....

Then there's the Welsh Harp Reservoir Nature reserve with plenty of wild life also, take binoculars if you have them, take a picnic. I took the quiet route as mapped behind the stadium, but you can also go the other way past shops and cafes....
