Marshy fields, overgrown entrances and dilapidated stiles made what might have been quite an enjoyable walk into quite a slog....

Two inns on route one at Kingstone where there are also seats at the church / village hall and children's play area, also a tap at village hall to top up on a hot day....

This route is an exact duplicate of HixUtt one, and has the same problems, so I'll repeat my comments:....

The route between Pinfold Street and Trinity Road in Uttoxeter does not exist on the ground and goes through a fenced off area. The GPX plotting is rather wayward throughout. I have submitted HixUtt three to fix these issues....
Hugh Hudson
From Hixon, we start up the ominous sounding Puddle Hill, which becomes a farm lane once out of the fields, then we cross fields on a little used and (apart from waymarked stiles) unmarked path, with the first of many awkward stiles and a few wet sections. We cross the busy B5013 and go straight on along another little used path with more wet and muddy sections. A short section of quiet lane brings us onto the Staffordshire Way, which is better trodden and has some good new stiles, but also has a section that has been constrained between fences and is quite wet and muddy....

Easy to follow path from Uttoxeter to Abbots Bromley. Scenery is predominantly fields but broken up with a few woodland parts. Plenty of pubs at the end of the walk....

First half was easy going with rolling dales, scenic views and plenty of wildlife....

Enjoyable route however difficult bits:poor way marking,a very steep bank east of Royston(the hollow)plus some deep ditches which don’t have safe bridges....

I know this area really well - the vast majority of this route follows a very dangerous fast road with many blind bends - this route should be removed....

Ken added Utthil two, a new walk from Uttoxeter to Hilton (South Derbyshire)
Walk this routeIt ignores footpaths where available, misses potential services at Draycott and at Marchington....

A walk of two part which offers a good link from Hilton to Hatton and Tutbury. The path across from Hilton to Marston on Dove is well walked although the section to the shared parish church less used but has good stiles. The dead end road west to Hatton offers easy walking and while the diversion around the Nescafe factory is well surfaced it does spoil an otherwise direct path. Not much can be seen of the castle but the exit path offers a good view of the river valley. The short section of road has a wide mown verge to the path along the access road to the Fauld Industrial Estate which has reminders of military use. The very short section of busy road offers a pavement. Apart from a nettle infested short section near the level rail foot crossing the route is good....

It's a short walk to Hanbury from there and beyond the village the path crosses open fields to Draycott in the Clay, where the route passes a farm shop and a pub. After a few more sheep filled fields, the route joins the pavement of the main road to Marchington. This section was not comfortable, and it definitely costs the route a star but the traffic was light enough and sensible enough to not deem this 300m section too dangerous to walk. However, the quality of the infrastructure is poor and the road walk between Marchington and Hound Hill could not be described as enjoyable or relaxing....

David Sanderson added Uttbur two, a new walk from Uttoxeter to Burton upon Trent
Walk this routeA walked path was evident across the rough field which assists navigation, then a gentle climb. Later the path crosses the games field of Abbotsholme school where a tap by the path might quench your thirst on a hot day. The cross field path was invisible but I pressed on keeping a close eye on the plotted route which got me through. Another report asking for steps to make the path safe to use, the road here is called The Hollow. Fortunately the path is signed from Virginsally, that name should tell a good story. Perhaps best to make use of that seat because while the path through the park is a delight, it is also a climb, take a breather and turn around. Back by the river it's easy walking but cattle are present and the locals walk by the river while the path crosses the meadow....

Abbots Bromley and Uttoxeter both have stops and shops in abundance but my one major criticism of this route of over 11km is that there are no stops and little variety between the settlements....
David Sanderson
Near Ash Brook the correct path is to the south of the tree lined pond but the trampled path was along the crop edge to the north....

From Uttoxeter to Rocester the route is mostly well signposted especially after it joins the Staffordshire Way at Dove Bridge....

Route through mostly lovely rural farmland, the start town of Stone has many facilities, pubs, cafes, places to stay, supermarkets etc on the route instelf there are almost no facilites, the first publically availabnle water is at around 18km. There are a number of tricky access issues where stiles have "disappeared" or vegentation needs to be beaten back....

I have run this route many times, it follows the well marked Staffordshire Way long distance path across rolling farmland with almost no road walking except at the start and finish....

From 10 to 13km the paths are somewhat indistinct over open farm land - suggest taking a printed map and using teh field boundaries, from 13km to teh finish the views are fantastic although some fairly steep hils to be negotiated. The whole route has numerous high stiles and gates....
