Walk this routeIt's a really fantastic walk through the Sussex Weald with woods, meadows and lovely villages. I think it would be reasonably challenging to follow this route accurately without GPS assistance....
MJRW12345
It mainly follows field paths and woodland tracks with a short section of road walking along Beresford Lane near the Plough Pub. This really showcases how attractive the Low Weald clay country can be with lots of small fields, hedgerows and patches of woodland, occasionally with glimpses of the South Downs to the South....

Walk this routeI walked this route from Uckfield to Crowborough on a sunny day in the middle of May. In general I found this to be a well-drawn route which successfully deals with the issue of the strange diversion to walk along the A26 at the Crowborough end of UCKCRO 1. However the big house and church at Buxted Park are worth a look and just off the route. There appeared to be a small path re-route just to the west of Kiln Farm near High Hurstwood where I was walking exactly on the line of the path as shown by OS and SatNav but was brushing through overgrown holly bushes....
Bostal Boy
The route passes two good country pubs; the Blackboys Inn at Blackboys and the Star Inn at Waldron, other than that I didn't see any other facilities. The path also passes Tickerage Mill at Blackboys which was the last home of Vivien Leigh in the 1960s....

I would also add that the start point in Crowborough is quite a walk from Crowborough station, around 1.5 miles mostly up hill so if planning the route by train this needs to be factored in....
Dan Barron
This route takes on to a dangerous section of Beacon Road A26 with no pavement of verge to walk on when there is a much better footpath route. Ingrina created Uckcro 2 which fixes this...

There are a few gates and stiles, and the paths can be narrow and very muddy in places, so it is not wheelchair or pram friendly. But it is good for anyone who loves a muddy walk and some wild garlic en route!...

There is a short section of road walking on a verge near North Chailey, but a fairly longish and annoying bit east of Wivelsfield Green, on the North Common Road. The road walking near Wivelsfield was the worst part of this walk. Near Burgess Hill there were a lot of well maintained paths, and after some back alleys, you make it to the finish....
Derick Rethans
I walked this route on 24-05-2022, and I would agree with the previous reviewer's comments though I found my way with no difficulties. However this is a lovely, scenic route along the banks of the rivers Uck and Ouse and also uses the route of the old railway line....
Bostal Boy
Then a path through Shermanreed Wood which is fenced on both sides so easy to follow. Then heading towards Maresfield, the route goes past Mill House Farm. Heading out of Maresfield the route goes along the drive through Maresfield Park past lots of big houses and gardens. This road is quite busy, but there is an adequate path/verge for pedestrians to walk along before taking the footpath on the left towards the hamlet of Cackle Street....

For the most part this is an attractive route passing through hay meadows, cattle pastures, cereal fields and a section through the wild heathland of Chailey Common....

I think this route needs a complete rethink between Barcombe Mills and Uckfield - probably best to join it up with Buguck. Will try and walk it myself and provide a .gpx at some point soon....
