Help connect Tywyn
Many Slow Ways have several route options. Some will be better than others, or good for different reasons.
Our goal is for each Slow Way to have at least one route that is verified and surveyed. To be verified – and get its snail badge – a route needs at least three positive reviews.
Give a hike and help get a for every one of Tywyn’s Slow Ways.

I walked this route Dolgellau to Tywyn using local bus services at either end (Lloyds Coaches)the route is as direct as it can be I think.Leaving Dol one is soon on clearly way marked sections (lanes/tracks/paths)taking one to Tan-y-Fedw eventually coming to a lane, and on to join the pony path, and after several miles reaching Abergynolwyn.Castell-y-bere shortly before one reaches Abergynolwyn is interesting to visit.Abergynolwyn has a tea room open till 3pm Tuesday to Sunday a pub The Railway Tavern currently closed but planning to reopen soon reasonably close is Abergynolwyn Station(Talyllyn Railway)no shops.Leaving Abergynolwyn insure the stream that joins the Dysynni river is on the right(this section is lacking clear way marking) However one. is rewarded with wonderful views. One then joins a very minor road to Bryncrug(Sustrans cycle network route 8)which is safe and almost traffic free.Passing Bird Rock and onto Bryncrug. From Bryncrug toTywyn is again a recognized cycle route some sections are close to a rather busy road some behind a hedge but it’s wide and safe to walk.I found no issues with access or obstructions, public transport links are better at Tywyn (rail and bus)both of which I have used. This is a hilly route in some parts but easy to follow....

This is a reasonably direct route offering many good views and passing places of interest ,I walked from Machynlleth to Tywyn (5/9/23)Leaving Mach one passes the site of the bridge under construction that will replace the old narrow stone bridge over the Dovey.Crossing the bridge one continues west along the A493 west after a short distance one comes to a way marked road on the right (care needed on this section no pavement)A steep climb on a tarmacked road takes you to a path on the left to Foel Goch and eventually on to Pennal (pub/no shops)crossing the A493 one soon comes to the driveway Plas Talgarth(hotel/timeshare complex)follow the way marked route through the site and on towards crossing the A493 this will take oneto anarrow tarmacked road which will take one eventually to the of start of the panoramic walk(track)several steep climbs along this section. This almost takes one to Aberdovey, leaving the road one takes a path to the right to cemetery and the A493 again!Crossing the road follow the track across the railway line and onto Aberdovey golf course turning right and follow the way marked route toTywyn.Currently there are no trains running on this line from Sept/Nov(Mach toPwllheli)bus replacement and standard public transport do run but only every two hours.I enjoyed walking this route, there were no obstructions or access issues. This not a difficult route to follow but a navigational aid and paper map could prove useful....

I walked this route Barmouth to Tywyn and enjoyed it very much,it is reasonably direct and has wonderful views long abandoned buildings the occasional large disused slate quarry forestry and plenty of sheep. The nature of route gives the walker several fairly steep climbs but that has it’s rewards. There a few styles and ladder styles but mostly metal kissing gates many looking recently installed but way markers seem to missing at many of these sites. After crossing Barmouth bridge(£1 toll!)one arrives at the A493 this road is busy turning left towards Barmouth after a short distance the footpath is on the right(no pavement take care)This path will eventually take youto rejoin the Welsh coastal path which will take you all the way to Tywyn.Finger posts and way markers are there but very inconsistent and I feel gps/paper map is essential to have to hand,I came across no obstructions broken styles or access issues and train /bus services are good but only every couple hours (I have used both)...

Mostly fields (sheep) and country / forest lanes except for the entry into Barmouth (same as Barmouth to Dolgellau, the road to the railway bridge can be busy). Stiles (photo) and fields make it a walking trail only. The second is longer and obvious - the farmer is very clear about not following the gpx (see photo), but the WCP is clear, keep going up the hill a little further....

I walked this route from Mach, and got as far as Aberdyfi before time ran out and I had to descend (via the coastal path local circular loop) to make sure I got the train in time....

However, there’s a section of rough track between Cefn-cynhafal Farm and Bwlch Farm which had a large patch of quagmire when I walked it (in August)....

All of it is well-marked and easy to navigate but be prepared for mud, water and uneven ground, especially on the track that runs NW of Happy Valley (to near Bryncrug). Also, this track is used by trail bikers so may be more peaceful on weekdays....
