Latest Updates

This is a route of two halves - the first follows the river along quiet, (and in some cases) poorly maintained paths; the second half follows the main road on a well-maintained, shared-use cycle/footpath. The route leaves Stockton town centre through a minor road (pic 1) using a footbridge that gets you down on to the riverside. Along the Riverside from Stockton the route stays close to the water but a couple of pubs and a boathouse prevent you from following the riverbank itself. The path heads south for almost all of the rest of the route (pic 11), following close to road....

As you approach the A66 Newport junction alongside the motor dealership (pic 2), bear right and the path follows a network of underpasses under the junction. The route then follows a well-made up, tarmac path in the direction of Stockton and goes under the A19 (pic 7). As you pass under the Tees Barrage bridge bear right and then quickly follow the path to the left following it down in front of the visitor centre and cafe (pic 11)....

Walk this route

There is a shop, takeaway and when open two cafes in the industrial estate in Stillington but no public toilets , so a good stop off point for refreshments. The walk takes you up Morrison Street named after the philanthropist Walter Morrison who was a business man who founded the carlton iron works!...

Walk this route

When I walked the route the bees were very active and their approach route was low and crossed the path and I ended up with several bees accidentally flying into me and getting stuck in my hair, which wasn't fun (though luckily I wasn't stung)....
