In wetter weather, stay on the lanes at North Barrow, head East and then take the first left turn. This will bring you out at the end of Cary Drove back on the published route, but will avoid the mud....

I expected to be trudging through mud in this low lying area, but although a couple of fields had standing water and there were some muddy field entrances, this was a good route to walk on. Finally on the outskirts of town, you reach the highest point of the walk and the views open out....

Just before you enter South Barrow, take the left turn marked Babcary and pick the route up again....
