Help connect South Harefield

Many Slow Ways have several route options. Some will be better than others, or good for different reasons.

Our goal is for each Slow Way to have at least one route that is verified and surveyed. To be verified – and get its snail badge – a route needs at least three positive reviews.

Give a hike and help get a for every one of South Harefield’s Slow Ways.

Latest Updates

Walked Gerrards Cross to South Harefield. Lakes and canal all the way to South Harefield. South Harefield isn’t a big place, but there are stores and some green space for a picnic, and buses to Uxbridge. My tip for refreshments is: at the junction between the canal path and the lakeside path at Troy lake, just south of West Harefield, head north alongside the canal, and just before the bridge at Coppermill Lane is a large pub and eatery, with a garden, called the Coy Carp. And - there is a handy bus to Uxbridge (via South Harefield) from a stop just up Coppermill Lane on the Harefield side of the canal. A more direct option, that doesn’t include the loop around the lakes and the canal, would be less pleasant overall, and would likely involve even more of the A412 or some other big road....

Walk this route

A mix of roads (mostly suburban, the road into S. Harefield at the end is the only hard core one), woods and parks. It’s easy to get lost in the woods, so make sure you are equipped to get back on track with gpx and battery; or map and compass....

There is the (from South to North): Uxbridge Alderglade nature reserve, Denham Country Park (with visitor centre), Denham Lock Woods (broad walk closed for replacement at time of my writing), Frays Meadow, Harefield Place Nature Reserve and Denham Quarry Woodlands. You then follow the canal path and at the very steep bridge the slow way route follows the Colne Valley path through the Denham Quarry Woods....

Along a little bit of road (A412) the route needs to skirt around HS2 building works, but a new path has been provided and safe. On the west side of the M25 however, the path becomes narrow with nettles on one side, and a barbed wire on the other....
