Help connect Sidmouth
Many Slow Ways have several route options. Some will be better than others, or good for different reasons.
Our goal is for each Slow Way to have at least one route that is verified and surveyed. To be verified – and get its snail badge – a route needs at least three positive reviews.
Give a hike and help get a for every one of Sidmouth’s Slow Ways.

A nice safe route using the west bank of the Otter (mostly) between Tipton and Ottery. Very pleasant. Includes quiet lanes in and out of Sidmouth as well as around the village of Harpford, otherwise traffic free....

Stunning views of cliffs and rolling hills. Plenty of opportunity for wild life spotting ' particularly now with the wetlands at Budleigh. Climbing may be a bit tough for some but the views are just reward....

I only walked the section from Branscombe to Seaton, but it was wonderful - and at least I avoided half of the steep climbs! Branscombe beach and Beer both have lovely cafes to stop and recharge. An excellent route - but a long and tiring day if you are thinking of doing the whole 10 miles....

Lovely route, with some very steep climbs at times! Great views of the countryside and nice diverse path....
Andy Martin
Stunning walk along the Jurassic Coast, but it is hard work! There are many steep climbs and descents, most of them are stepped, which helps, but you will get a good work out on this route....
Helen Gough
I especially enjoyed walking along the streams and river....

I used it as part of a hike between Budleigh Salterton and Honiton and am keen to come back and do the whole walk again in the summer....
danravenellison
This is a great walk and quite possibly the best way to get between Budleigh Salterton and Sidmouth!...

A couple of steep and muddy ascents and descents by Peak Hill and High Peak but this was on 30 Dec after quite a lot of rain. Not an accessible route for those with any mobility challenges and generally requires a reasonable level of fitness...

The track round the north (Greenway Lane) and east (Higher Greenway Lane) sides of Bulverton Hill can be very muddy after rain. Expect lots of gates, stiles and mud - but fine countryside....

I note your warning about the A3052 road crossing at Harpford — it’s quite a shocker — and next time I’ll try rerouting via Harpford Wood to avoid it (assuming the crossing up the hill isn’t as bad)....

This is a fabulously scenic route that follows the South West Costal Path along the cliff tops of The Jurassic Coast. It is quite challenging with several steep valleys to be crossed en-route. Refreshments and toilets are available at Branscombe beach cafe....
MartinPratt
This route basically follows the South West Coastal Path but has an unnecessary diversion to Street (which is a descent and climb) and also uses the Old Beer Road on the outskirts of Seaton. This section of road is currently shut following a cliff land-slip. The added route of Sidsea two is more direct and includes the diversion to avoid the closed road....
MartinPratt
The road past Woods Farm is narrow, with no pavement and absolutely unsuitable for walkers. There are much better routes avoiding this section....
CarineSilver
A very scenic route along good paths and greenlanes with a small amount of walking on minor roads and urban pavements. There are many steps and kissing gates along the route which makes the route only accessible by walkers....
MartinPratt
This route is not possible because the route crosses inaccessible private woodland West of The Bowd....
