Walk this routeA fellow walker, encountered here by happy chance, informed me that these piers belong to the Sarsden Estate, and that one of them harbours a beehive in its summit. The descent past Fairgreen Farm is gentle and pleasing, flanked by an ornamental serpentine lake and the stately grounds of Sarsden House, which exudes a quiet opulence. The estate is exited via a gated entrance, and the route continues past Sarsden Cross and along a short but charming lane. A near reversal of direction follows, as the path crosses the Sarsden Glebe valley....

Setting out from the historic market town of Charlbury on a Sunday morning, the church bells toll with hearty vigour - an auspicious herald for the day's wander. A note to the discerning walker: rather than follow the prescribed road past the railway station, a swifter and more agreeable diversion cuts across The Green and through the tranquil Holy Trinity Church, where time itself seems to slow....

I walked from Shipton-under-Wychwood to Witney in August 2024. The weather had been dry for quite a while, so I didn't experience the muddy sections mentioned by the previous reviewer - though I recognise the sections mentioned and yes, they'll be very muddy.....

I agree with the previous viewer - mostly fine, but - the section on Riding Lane is on-road, with twists and turns, and no verges....

Its an interesting route but not suitable for pushchairs/buggies or wheelchairs as very muddy and a gate and stile nearer to Shipton. 307189 to 308181 busy-ish Road but wide verge. 324163 to 323155 narrow road with no verge nearer to Leafield....

Walked this route from Chipping Norton to Shipton under Wychwood in March 2024 after a very wet winter. 294219 suggest not using the bridleway and footpath via Merriscourt Farm in wet/muddy conditions...

Mostly a good walk but the road between Leafield and Crawley is fast with short sightlines and little to no verge. Have submitted ShiWit2 and will review that March 2024....

Walk this routeThe short section that's on paths just to the north of Swinbrook isn't wheel-friendly, but the diversion via the road isn't a lot longer, and the roads are similarly quiet....

As other reviewers have noted, this route is mostly off road, and the roads that it does follow are pretty quiet....

I walk parts of this route weekly and it offers wonderful views across the Evenlode valley. Note that some parts can be muddy....

As currently mapped the stretch from Shipton to Ascott includes a very rural level crossing - take care! This section also gets extremely muddy in winter. The walk from Ascott to Charlbury via Chilton and Shorthampton is a joy without even a stile in sight....
