Sections of head-high nettles overgrowing the path in the section between Ditchford Lane and Rushden Lakes....

The majority of the route is pleasant but the section from the Irthlingborough road to River Nene is not passable without wading or swimming across the River Ise (shown in photo). A path is present to the south joining Irthlingborough road just west of the bend but it goes around tall metal fencing and unclear if it is intended as a right of way (to right of fencing in photo)....
MC
This route uses pavements near Rushden and quiet roads near Riseley and a short section in the middle around Avenue road....
MC
Path between Willmott road and A6 past play area to north east of Manor Park is wider, drier and less overgrown than Manor Park paths. I would walk this route again but would wear boots and trousers rather than shoes and shorts....
MC
Unfortunately this does mean a short section of road walking to regain the path, which passes the sewage works and crosses above a weir that is only used at high water to reach the main cycle track through the Rushden Lakes country park. From here we follow the cycle track signs to reach the Greenway railway path, which takes us to the north end of Rushden's High Street....

Hugh Hudson added Welrus two, a new walk from Wellingborough to Rushden
Walk this routeWe turn left and pass the allotments, then cross Rushden Road and continue to the edge of a large field. Our path is less used than the one that crosses the bridge, and follows the left side of the railway along a field edge then between fences. Here we turn right down Back Lane, which crosses the railway on a high bridge and continues past farm buildings to a narrow band of woodland, where we turn left on what starts as a good track but becomes quite a muddy path. Eventually we emerge in a field, cross the brook and reach the edge of Sharnbrook, where the meeting point is a short pavement walk away....

I walked some of this route from Wellingborough to Rushden, and investigated all of the possible paths south from Irthlingborough Road. The only one that is walkable is the old railway, and even that is unsignposted and probably not a right of way. A shame because most of the route is good....
Hugh Hudson
A better - quieter, shorter and safer - start to this walk would be to use the Greenway that connects Rushden High Street with Rushden Lakes. Once into Rushden Lakes the walk is surrounded by greenery and water until the outskirts of Wellingborough. Some of the paths are narrow and can be muddy so probably only suitable for a serious off-road cyclist....

Stile-free route along field edges and farm tracks, with excellent open views between Knotting and Higham Park; this Slow Way will only improve with time as the Strawberry Hill rewilding project matures. Echo the recommendation of the previous reviewer - do visit Knotting Church if it is open - and the concern about the road crossing into Rushden with its steep, poorly maintained steps on either side....

Walk this routeThe route follows the railway using farm tracks and field paths. Hall Park in Rushden is beautiful....

First section is all pavements heading along Bedford road towards a housing estate to reach the footpath but continuing to the rugby club is easier. From this point its mostly grassy paths alongside fields as well as some concrete tracks Between knotting and Ridley there was an overgrown coppice which was difficult to travel through...

Pretty easy to follow but could use a better route up to the A6. I will add an alternative route that avoids the housing estates in Rushden and is more direct and easier to follow....

It is nice and clear until you reach the forest near wymington which is overgrown and blocked by a fallen down tree. After this you follow a few more fields then the roads to hall park and into rushden (I cant upload pictures right now due to a bug/glitch and will fix this asap)...

A pleasant route that avoids the loud town streets and follows the old railway...

The route is the path next to the direct roadway between rushden and higham, it's easy and straightforward but bland...

Lovely quiet walk, however some road walking with no path (not too much though). I did not walk all the way, I walked from Sharnbrook to Wymington....

Some of the houses on the walk between Rushden and Higham, or back again, are quite nice to look at and there are plenty of leafy trees during part of the Rushden portion of the walk. The hills aren't too steep and you can take a pushchair. Some of the pavements could be better but there are cafes at either end....
