Walk this routeThe walk is effectively three sections, Swindon to Mannington Rec Ground, comprising urban lit pavements, Mannington to end of Lydiard Park, tarmac and compacted gravel tracks, and the final section from Hook Road across generally awful fields to RWB....

Having walked and surveyed Calroy one, I found it particularly challenging in the section between RWB and Hilmarton, and having also undertaken Chiroy one, I then compiled this route as an alternative which cuts out all the problems....

Walk this route( a ) and ( c ) involved diverting route onto quiet lanes, whilst ( b ) involved much to-in and fro-in trying to find the path in a wilderness, then opting on an alternative route entirely This alternative shows where the actual route on the ground is, rather than the OS map line...

Prior to undertaking this route, I read this review, and was concerned that my walk was to be one of much tribulation. I have created an alternative route which avoids the first eight issues, but will not upload until I know the route is achievable....

Sadly this route is impassable due to overgrown paths, barbed wire, broken styles and planting across the footpath. Although we did get through we wouldn't recommend it for these reasons. We will have to create Royswi Two and come back and test it out....

While the crops growing of paths can easily be overcome by walking around the edge of the fields, the path has been totally taken over by overgrowth for 200 metres (parallel to Hook Street below Hook Farm)....

Difficult access and route finding with not much to recommend that section. The B&B said they had walked the section from Malmesbury to Brinkworth and enjoyed it, hence 3 stars....

I joined the route from the Ridgeway and dropped down to Broad Hinton. The route from Broad Hinton to Cotmarsh was unfriendly with gates locked, paths across fields ignored, stiles broken or absent. Gave up at Cotmarsh as much time lost and went on road....

The route takes you through a field that had a lot of very excitable cows in it....

The Lydiard Park (and environs) crossing is lovely, and the rest of the route follows mostly cycle paths in Swindon, it could be improved in a few places (for example it crosses the busy Great Western Way above ground)....
