Latest Updates
Once you reach the outskirts of Tunbridge Wells and cross the gold course, the route becomes residential along quiet roads. I had no access issues; however the route was extremely muddy, which made it difficult at times....

There's a good bit of road walking in Paddock Wood, this route uses a small diversion through the playing fields/community centre to highlight where the gate at the far end is. Romford Road was very quiet, not sure if I saw any cars, just a few people walking home from the fete. A nice track comes out near abandoned farm buildings and housing at the north end of Pembury Village where I cut across the village, down beside the old school and small cemetery and come out into woodland again. Next was a walk down a quiet lane and over the bypass, to a lovely view. That long lane comes out on the edge of Tonbridge, this route was simple and uses very quiet roads until Grove Hill Road, a few hundred metres uphill from Tunbridge Wells Station....

Walk this routeWent past some really pretty houses but was particularly nice when we got to the more wilderness bits closer to Southborough....

The start (so, the end) is mostly along streets, not very exciting and not the most direct route - but the Southborough end runs through some lovely countryside....

At the end of Royal Chase, use the zebra crossing onto Mount Ephraim, instead of crossing onto the triangular patch of grass between Mount Ephraim and London Road....

the path from Snipe Wood into Pembury runs alongside a stream at some points, and it looks very much like the stream runs down it for a lot longer. I rejoined this route again near the village green, where the pub, hotel chippy and the only bits of this route I didn't actually test today are on Google Street View, and it is dated yesterday!...

A nice generally quiet route mostly off of roads. Route was easy to follow....

The path shown between Paddock Wood and Matfield does not exist....

I started at Wadhurst Station, some distance from the meeting point, but walked down to the beginning of Tapsell Lane (squirrels 7: traffic nil) so only missed reviewing the first km or so on a busy through the village. A shortcut to the route from the station is to join the SB Path from opposite "The Keys" a short way uphill from the station.. There are plenty of steep slopes up and down into the wooded valleys, green glowing moss, footbridges over rushing streams, oak trees so loaded with lichen they looked like freshly opened leaf buds from a distance, buzzards and rooks and ravens overhead, tiny lambs gambolling damply. Soon will be bluebells, wild garlic and wood anenomes. Please leave a comment if you find my glasses ;-). For others expect gates, stiles, many roots, steps of earth, plank, root and stone, wooden footbridges with muddy approaches, streams of water deciding the path looks like a good route for them too, 2 small non-bridged streams (strategic laid branches helped), mud and plenty of flowing water generally, muddy and somewhat slippery slopes plus a narrow, but scenic, small muddy ravine with stream and path unnervingly close together....

Walk this routeI walked this route today (February) from Tunbridge Wells to Cowden - it took me 3.5 hours plus a break I'll explain it as though I went from Cowden (as that's the title) but the photos are generally looking the other way! If you start at Cowden then you have largely farm fields to walk to until Ashurst at 4.5 miles which has a railway station. You will continue up the hill and come out on to a small, quiet road and which you walk down the hill about 600m to Groombridge. Groombridge has a pub on the route, 6 miles from Cowden, 4 miles from Tunbridge Wells, The Crown Inn, which serves food. 8 miles from Cowden and 2 miles from Tunbridge Wells you walk past the lovely pub at High Rocks. There is a lovely path along the river (you have to cross the quiet road by the pub) and then you end up at a housing estate where the developer seems to have built over the right of way but you can walk past the houses to walk briefly along the pavement before turning up the steep hill onto Tunbridge Wells Common....

Walk this routeThis route is not possible because there is no public right of way between Barelands Farm (TQ608252) and Higham (TQ6109355). To make matters worse there is a large swathe of private land to the East of Frant which makes transit without going onto roads impossible....

We couldn't find a way to cross the railway track between Brookland Wood and Grigg's Wood. Had to turn back and walk along Bayham Road (50 mph with no footpath) to Bells Yew Green. Some of the footpaths suggested in this route are not on other maps or are marked as private....
When walking along Castle Road (just after Mount Edgcumbe Road) you could take the path on the left hand side of the road as this avoids walking towards oncoming traffic in Castle Road - we would suggest this slight amendment to the route....
