We cross and slant left up the hill on a path that starts clearly but deteriorates - the exit to Rothwell Lodge is awkward because of a missing stile and an overgrown bank beyond it, so it may be easier to climb the gate to the left as I did. We pass under the A14 - watch out for the path left beyond the bridge that avoids a short section of walking on the verge of the main road. Eventually we emerge on Northampton Road, which we follow under the railway and across the A6003 (if you want to stay on the left side of Northampton Road, there is a pelican crossing here slightly left of the junction - this is preferable to crossing the main road without lights)....

The route is very short and simple - just take the path right of the church, follow it out to the B576, follow a pavement for a few yards and take another field path that takes you most of the way into Rothwell....

As others have said, the gate through the hedge down by the river and road can be *very* wet for a large part of the year....

Take the right fork and pass through the hedge to reach the road. 25m after the bridge over the Ise take the signed path through the kissing gate....
