Help connect Pyle
Many Slow Ways have several route options. Some will be better than others, or good for different reasons.
Our goal is for each Slow Way to have at least one route that is verified and surveyed. To be verified – and get its snail badge – a route needs at least three positive reviews.
Give a hike and help get a for every one of Pyle’s Slow Ways.

As pointed out in other reviews, there is a little kink in the route at Margam, which deviates from the No 4 cycle route for a couple of hundred metres - it would be better to just follow the cycle route all the way. Photo 5 - The Orangery, Margam Park...

A pleasant route mainly on tarmac, with just a couple of short sections around the Parc Slip nature reserve having a stony surface, but well-bedded in. Photo 2 - Cycle track with tarmac surface...

A good route, mostly on tarmac, but a couple of fields with kissing gates and a section through the Grove golf course prevent it from being wheel friendly....

Functional if uninspiring route which is mostly along cycle paths by some fairly busy roads...

Other than that it’s flat and wide all the way either on an off road cycle path running alongside the road, pavement or tiny off road (tarmac) section as you arrive in Port Talbot....

Shortly after passing ASDA, the route goes off road and circles around Kenfig Hill rugby club and arrvies at the National Cycle Network (Route 4). The route enters Parc Slip and there is a memorial to an explosion in 1892 where 112 miners lost their lives. After the memorial the route goes north along the cycle path and ends up at the Parc Slip visitor centre where there is a café selling hot drinks and snacks....
Stuart Bain
The right of way close to Cefn Cribbwr junction is difficult to access and blocked in places. The path south of the memorial within Parc Slip is overgrown and there are better routes to take....

The route from Port Talbot is very urban and starts by following a cycleway alongside Harbour Way. (The only bit I would alter is an odd kink in the route that uses roads instead of a signposted cycleway. The cycleway is better.) It's all pretty easy and flat, and is adequately signposted for cyclists and Wales Coast Path walkers, but it's also just a case of walking past houses, with one bit alongside a sports field....

A safe if unexciting cycle path mixed between segrated traffic lanes and traffic free routes, with some queiter lanes. Poorly maintained for wheels in some places particularly just outside Pyle....

Then the route went off road alongside cycle lanes until it left the confines of Bridgend. Once I visited the church I followed the route across agricultural land and although the route diverts off the right of way halfway across there is an obvious track to follow. The path eventually leads through the middle of a farm and reaches the road that runs alongside Stormy Down onto the A48....

You start in maesteg Town and the first mile is up hill until you get to the school, from the school the routes takes you through a narrow lane which is overgrown and takes you to a nettle/stingy overgrown Marsh (do not bother, unwalkable and you can go round) which will be via road through a housing estate....

A lot of roads where nicer footpaths could seemingly have been chosen - but otherwise a clear and easy walk...

Part of the route (country lanes) is liable to flooding above ankle depth after prolonged periods of heavy rain - wear long wellies, rather than walking boots....
