Help connect Probus

Many Slow Ways have several route options. Some will be better than others, or good for different reasons.

Our goal is for each Slow Way to have at least one route that is verified and surveyed. To be verified – and get its snail badge – a route needs at least three positive reviews.

Give a hike and help get a for every one of Probus’s Slow Ways.

Latest Updates

It mirrors the same section between Tresillian & Probus as the other two routes but for the Truro to Tresillian section it follows the pavement alongside the main road in the most part only detouring through the park & ride once again on pavement to avoid a short section where the main road pavement is missing for no reason that is apparent....

I walked the Probus to Tresillian section of this walk on TruPro one, so some notes from my review of that Slow Way to start:. Probus is a charming village, and I soon found myself deep into the countryside, travelling through beautiful woodland west of Tregurno, before emerging in Tresillian, roughly half way through the slow way....

Probus is a charming village, and I soon found myself deep into the countryside, travelling through beautiful woodland west of Tregurno, before emerging in Tresillian, roughly half way through the slow way. Overall the Probus - Tresillian section is more peaceful and enjoyable, while the second part into Truro is practical but on pavement all the way...

Walk this route

This route is a fair route which is off road and direct. Once out of the village I joined an off road path that had nice views over hills and was very quiet. After half a mile or so walking alongside the main road on pavements I crossed over the road and took a public footpath alongside the river for the next mile or so....

Walk this route

This is very much a walk of two halves making it difficult to rate but unfortunately on balance I can’t recommend this route due to safety concerns about the first half which is a particular shame as the second half between Tresillian and Probus is excellent....

Walk this route

This wasn’t a problem given how quiet these were but in the spring or summer these may become a lot busier especially given the route goes past the Lost Gardens of Heligan....

I walked this route from Probus to Mevagissey. Grampound serves as a good place on the route to take a break or stock up on supplies with a similar offering to Probus....

Plenty of options for stocking up on supplies on route with shops in Probus, Grampound, Heligan (great farm shop) and Mevagissey....

I walked this route from Indian Queens to Probus. Indian Queens seemed quite quiet, but is on a bus route with a few shops and a pub. Summercourt and Ladock both have shops and other amenities and make great places to rest and resupply on the route....

The path heading west from Forgue farm, south of Ladock was non-existent, so there was no way to continue on this route when heading from Indian Queens to Probus....

I agree with Everydayduffy's observations: do persevere looking for the footpath quitting the A390 after the field walk out of St Austell (I also walked this route in reverse) it is there - just a little further along than expected....

I walked this route from Probus, a handsome spacious village where I was welcomed at the Hawkins Arms with a full glass and the opportunity to charge my phone....

Walk this route

It felt like the majority of the walk was alongside/on roads, but there is still a good chunk of off road route too. - There is an option to turn off the main road through Tresillian (A390) earilier than the route indicates, to take a public right of way across a reedbed and rejoin the road into Truro. - The road that takes you into Truro, after turning off the A390 is quite a dangerous walk....

Walk this route

Entering Probus was ok, although the closure of road linking the A390 to Parkengear Vean closer to the centre of the village, meant I took an alternative route though a new build estate paralell to said road. Another thing to note is the availability of a path in the woodland on the southern side of the A390 west of Trewithen House....
