Help connect Plaistow
Many Slow Ways have several route options. Some will be better than others, or good for different reasons.
Our goal is for each Slow Way to have at least one route that is verified and surveyed. To be verified – and get its snail badge – a route needs at least three positive reviews.
Give a hike and help get a for every one of Plaistow’s Slow Ways.

I walked this route from Plaistow to Canary Wharf. - The route down the back Barking Road was fine, but if you prefer a more lively route, then follow the main road instead! - For ease of navigation, and for a more pleasant route, I would stay on the footpath around the Poplar Dock Marina and Blackwall Basin...

At Canning Town tube these are correct and very helpful, as long as you realise they involve going underground, but in other places they seem to be an inadvertent mistake. Also be warned that phone apps might not be giving you your correct position, again it's better to rely on old school methods. Access wise the main obstacle is the steep and long steps at Blackwall Basin, the footbridge over to Canning Town has steps at both ends but also lifts....

This is an easy pleasant route to follow with lots of facilities. The Greenway path is a shared cycle route, but has plenty of space....

I started walking from Plaistow underground station which is just over a kilometre from the start of the route along reasonably quiet streets. From the start of the route you could just walk straight down the A124 which is lined with shops most of the way to Canning Town but the detour to a parallel side road offers a quieter alternative....

I walked starting at North Woolwich and almost did a detour soon after starting, assuming I could not go through the gate in the photo - however it is open to those using the capital ring path and opens for you when you press the button, it just looks uninviting....

Agree with other reviewers, it's a good route, mostly along the greenway so well away from cars. I've cycled it many times for work and it is well used by locals....

Slightly indirect but worth it because a lot is off road, following the Capital Ring, which is well signposted....

Walk this routeRoute follows a section of the Capital Ring and is therefore very well signposted and mainly through parks away from roads....

A much better route is to head south east on the Greenway and come off at Boundary Road and wiggle through the smaller streets to Central Park East Ham. That way also takes you past a community orchard near Newham General Hospital...

Liz R added Canpla two, a new walk from Canary Wharf to Plaistow
Walk this routeThere is a problem with this route at Canning Town where it uses a footbridge that doesn't exist and goes through a building site. Canning Town is a fast changing area with many developments ongoing....
