Help connect Northam
Many Slow Ways have several route options. Some will be better than others, or good for different reasons.
Our goal is for each Slow Way to have at least one route that is verified and surveyed. To be verified – and get its snail badge – a route needs at least three positive reviews.
Give a hike and help get a for every one of Northam’s Slow Ways.

I would say it's maybe suitable for rugged wheels, but be aware it's not a smooth surface and there is also a noticeable incline....

I wouldn't say it would be particularly easy for wheelchairs or pushchairs as a couple of uneven and mucky parts, although these are short parts. Nice to finish off with a pint and a pasty in Bideford!...
Carlyn Gough
Fairly short and relatively easy walk. Couple of muddy patches after some rain. Found it interesting and pretty, felt like I was further out than we actually were!...
Carlyn Gough
This is a nice mix of quiet roads and traffic free trails on the south west coast path....

The majority of this route is the same as Norbar(1) following the Tarka Trail a shared route with cyclists between Barnstaple and Bideford....
Tim Ryan
The two alternatives are short but keep you on tarmac, with pavements and away from paths whilst being fine in dry conditions could be problematic after heavy rain....
Tim Ryan
However at the time I walked it, just after a ew days of heavy rain there were a couple of difficult sections....
Tim Ryan

Tim Ryan

I preferred the section after this, heading up to Northam on footpaths and small roads....
Emily Howells
Northam to Bideford is along some roads, and footpaths, but just after Bideford the route follows the Tarka Trail and coast path to Barnstaple....
Helen Gough
Much of it is wooded, and despite being an urban walk, it feels like you are out in the country, be prepared for rough, stony pathways....

Slow Ways added Norbar one, a new walk from Northam to Barnstaple
